As an Amazon lover, I’m getting pretty excited for Prime Day – next Tuesday, July 12th!
Unfortunately, you’re not able to see the deals ahead of time, but Amazon is nice enough to prep you with some tips and tricks for navigating Prime Day. I’m planning on reviewing them myself in order to hopefully find some good deals for Scallop’s upcoming 4th birthday, so I figured it would make sense to list them out here too!
- All Prime members can participate in Prime Day!
- Starting at midnight on July 12th, new deals will be offered as often as every 5 minutes throughout the day.
- You can join the Amazon Prime Facebook Event Page in order to be updated about exclusives (Amazon Prime Day!)
- There are also mobile app notifications for you to take advantage of. These alert you as to when the next deal is supposed to start and can be accessed through the menu in your Amazon app.
“Lightning Deals” are promotions that include a limited number of items that are generally only offered for a short period of time.
- If you see a “Join Waitlist” button on a Lightning Deal, it means that all of the discounts have already been placed in customers’ carts – BUT not all of the purchases have been completed yet. Sooooo….
- You can join the waitlist for the deal and if a purchase has not been completed within 15 minutes, the discount will be applied to the next person on the waitlist.
- Amazon will then notify you, either on the Amazon webpage or through the app, that your discount is available.
I WIILL find all of my son’s birthday presents for a good deal. I WILL find at least some Christmas presents for cheap! Hey, a girl can dream!
I have heard that many people don’t think the deals on Prime Day are worth it, and that many of the items are not ones that they’d buy anyway – deep discount or not. Bummer.
Will you be shopping on Prime Day? Are there any specific items you’ll be looking for? Does your family think you need an Amazon intervention? If so, can we start a club??

I am also an Amazon Addict and have a box delivered nearly every day… FINALLY got my husband on board after we saved over half price on doorknobs and hinges when I price checked Amazon after our cart was full in a box store last weekend – saved us almost $600!
I tried to buy Diono carseats last year on prime day and everything sold out too quickly! I kept being put on waitlists with no luck. I plan to be more flexible this year and generically look to stock up on some gifts for our little guy and nieces + nephews.

Last year wasn’t great at all. I kept looking and didn’t see anything that I would buy or that was worth it. Hopefully this year is a lot better, because last year was a huge flop.

I agree with trying to just keep a general idea out for gift ideas where you can be flexible.

I didn’t get anything last year but I am hopeful this year! I need to get LO some birthday stuff — praying for a good deal on a water table!

I’m hoping this year will be better. Last year was super disappointing.
