Fiona loves being read to like her oldersiblings. These days it’s harder to find time to read to all three separately, so most of the time Fiona is left amusing herself with her own books while I read to Drake and Juliet before bed. Watching Fiona’s fascination with flipping pages made me want to spend more time reading to just her, and for her birthday I picked up a few new ones just for her. Here are some we both have really loved.
Jellycat – Fiona was given the unicorn version of this as a gift for her birthday and it’s one of her favorite touch and feel style books. I think it might be the tail which is an added piece of fun and an extra tactile to manipulate. I got her the sheep one since she is my little lamb and she seems to like it just as much.
You Are My Pumpkin – We are big fans of Joyce Wan books in this house. I used to read Juliet this trio to bed for her first year and now I can start a new one with Fiona!
Space Walk – I’m not sure if its because of the funny cover page, but Fiona gets very excited about this book. She always presses the book right up to her face and nose. I’m not sure if she is trying to imitate what the guy in the helmet looks like, but either way it’s cute and endearing and makes me pick this book often just for the fun!
1 2 3 in the Sea – Juliet has a 1 2 at the zoo book and the pop outs are creative and fun. This one has proven to be appealing for both my girls so far too.
Flutterby Butterfly – My friend has the frog one from the series and the little slides are perfect for little exploring fingers. Fiona hasn’t gotten the hang of it yet, but she does love trying and shape is just right for her. Her grandmother, who loves butterflies, especially likes reading this one to her.
Dear Zoo – Animal Shapes – Dear Zoo is such a popular and beloved book that when I saw they made a sequel, I knew we had to add it to the collection. Drake still loves the original but this one is very fun with the animals and shapes.
Colors – Xavier Deneux has some of the most creative and interesting cut out books I have seen. Graphic designers and those fond of cool design will love these simple but creatively done books. I’m thinking of adding quite a few more to our library including this ABC one and this dream one.
First Words – I wanted to get Fiona a basic first word book and when I found a flip one, I thought it would add a little more fun to a simple concept. I think the illustrations are pretty sweet and might get the animal one next for her since I really like the design.

I don’t know why but that Furry Friends was SUCH a hit with Baby C! He loved it literally to death… I find pieces of it here and there.
