I think we all can agree that being a Mom is stressful 24/7 job! Whether you stay at home, work at home, work outside the home; no matter if you’re a Mom to one or four…. being a Mom is exhausting and at some point or another we all need a little break! I feel like it is vital to my sanity that I take some time for myself to relax and de-stress. So here are some ways that I like to recharge my batteries!
Baking – I LOVE to bake, especially cupcakes! Being in the kitchen methodically scooping, stirring, mixing, and measuring is just so relaxing and therapeutic for me. I love picking out a fun new recipe on Pinterest or making a family classic; either way, the fact that I’m able to be creative, take my time, and end up with something delicious does wonders for me. It lifts my spirits and helps me relieve my stress.
Running – I am by no means a great runner, and honestly, running and I have a love/hate relationship, but there is just something about it. When I am feeling stressed out or in need of a little letting off some steam, running just does it for me. I like to run outdoors, but I also don’t mind lacing up my shoes and just heading down to our basement and hopping on the treadmill for a little bit. After I finish a run, I always feel so much better. I’m tired in a good way and I feel like I’ve just sweat out a bunch of toxins! Haha!
Planning – I kind of started this hobby at the beginning of the year on whim, but nine months later I have really fallen in love with it. I love sitting down at my desk or on the couch with some fun stickers and pens and just planning out my week; it has become my new Sunday evening routine. After I’ve put Mini Pbj to bed, I get out my supplies and go to work. It’s so relaxing for me to write down and plan out the week ahead. Being able to see what I have to get accomplished in the coming days gives me so much stress relief. It takes away some of my anxiety and worries about forgetting things or not getting things done when they need to be. Plus being able to mark things off my lists each day is so nice and gives me a weird satisfaction!
Coloring/Penmanship Practice – Adult coloring books have become super popular over the last year and I have a couple that I really enjoy coloring in. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through Facebook… again… coloring is a good activity for me to do while I’m watching television in the evenings or during Mini Pbj’s nap time on the weekends. I know that all the details in those coloring books can be overwhelming for some people, but it doesn’t bother me. I also have recently gotten into trying my hand at some brush lettering/modern calligraphy. I picked up some markers and a sketch pad and have been hitting up YouTube and Pinterest for technique how-tos. It definitely takes practice and is a little more difficult than I thought, but I’ve been having fun practicing and it’s been another relaxing way to de-stress and clear my mind.
What are some activities you enjoy for relaxation or ways you like to take a time-out and re-charge your batteries?

Planning! LOL I love it – Yes, me too on this one! I call it “making lists.” I make lists of everything: groceries, to-do items, chores, life goals, books to read, books I’ve already read, etc etc. It’s great to be able to check things off and see your progress, and it always helps me to feel less stress when I know I have concrete actionable things written down on a list.

Ooh! Is your “planning” bullet journaling?

@Mrs. Palette: Exactly! I love being able to have it all laid out in front of me and write things down…helps me to feel like everything’s a little more manageable! @Mrs. Blush: Totally! Marking things off on a list instantly makes me feel better about life haha! @Alivoo01: I love to read too! I actually seem to get more reading done at work than at home lol! ….Since I work with ages 0-3, reading is something that’s easy to do during their nap time! @Viola: I don’t really bullet journal, but I’ve seen lots of stuff about it and it looks totally cool and something I’d like to try at some point! Do you?

I do! I love how it’s completely customizable and flexible. You make it your own and use what works for you. I do love looking at the pretty Instagrams, even if mine isn’t pretty. It helps reduce my anxiety because it makes me feel like I’ve got things in order.
