Mrs. PB&J recently blogged about giving a children’s first aid kit as a baby shower gift and I love that idea (I made a similar emergency kit for my friend’s wedding many years ago)! Charlie has had his fair share of injuries in his almost 7 years of life, while Olive has always been our much more cautious child. This is what I would gift a friend in my children’s first aid kit!
For Babies
- Nosefrida – kinda gross but really works
- Gripe Water
- diaper cream
- Acetaminophen – Be sure you get the infant version for babies.
- Ibuprofen
- Dosage syringe – I still use a syringe with my 5-year-old because she hates taking medicine.
- Vicks Baby Rub – Apply to feet and cover with socks to treat coughs
- Saline spray
- Boogie Wipes
- Manuka honey – To treat coughs for children 12 Months+
- Neosporin
- Wound Cleaner
- Pain Spray
- Bandaids
- Blister Pads
- Gauze Pads
- Medical Tape
- Burn Jel – the best thing for burns
- Ice Pack/Heat Pack – frozen ketchup packets also make great mini ice packs
- Allergy
- Anti Diarrheal
- Anti Nausea – My daughter won’t chew Dramamine so we use this liquid version.
- Miralax – Constipation is a very common childhood problem
- electrolyte powder
- eye wash
- lollipops – because they make everything better
- Digital Thermometer – (rectal thermometer for infants)
- Cotton Swabs
- Tweezers
- nail clippers
- scissors
- first aid manual
- Tacklebox
And here’s a printable pdf that you can take with you to the store!

This is great! A friend gave me a mini first aid kit with Tylenol, gas drops, boogie wipes, and a couple other things before Baby P was born. She said it would be great not to have to run out and get them when I needed them the first time. She was right!

Lately I’ve been thinking about what items I should put in a first aid kit to have it ready in case I need it for my son. I discovered your post right at the perfect time! Thanks for sharing!

Baby probiotic drops were really helpful to reduce diarrhea and diaper rash when LO was taking antibiotics. The Gripe Water on the list may be similar.
