Last weekend we celebrated Baby P’s first birthday. My sweet little baby has become a walking, talking toddler! It was a great day and Mr. P and I had so much fun celebrating our girl with our family and friends. As I mentioned in my party planning post the theme of the party was flowers, and we used mostly pink and green to decorate.

I ordered Baby P’s invitations from DesignAndDonuts on Etsy and had them printed at a local print shop. I love how they turned out. Several guests showed up wearing floral print or pink and green.

We had her party at home with about 30 guests. We turned our entry table into the gift table and also put the party favors there. Inside the party favor bags were a pinwheel, bath drops, bath crayons, finger paint soap, and a mini watering can that we thought would make a fun bath toy.

I picked up several bunches of flowers at the grocery store the day before the party and placed them around the house. On the mantle I placed the gorgeous birthday board made by Mrs. Cowgirl. I’ve had her Etsy shop bookmarked for years and was so excited to finally get to order something. She used Baby’s invitation as her inspiration when making the board. I also made a banner with Baby P’s monthly photos and hung it on the mantle.

We set up the food table in the dining room. I enjoy cooking, but didn’t want to spend the day in the kitchen, so most of the food came from Costco. We served croissant sandwiches, fresh veggies, pasta salad, and fruit. It was simple, easy, and delicious.

We ordered the cake from a local bakery, Yummy Tummy Pastries. The cake tasted so good and looked great. Above the food table we hung a banner from The Paper Wonderland. There was also a coordinating banner for Baby P’s smash cake. We had a drink station set up on the wet bar in the living room where we served iced water, sweet tea, and mimosas. The mimosas were a big hit!

I made a paper garland to hang as a backdrop for Baby P’s smash cake photos. It was a pretty quick project and I loved the way it looked. I took lots of photos while I was making it so I can share a tutorial soon.

Speaking of smash cake, Baby P was not much of a fan! She enjoyed everyone singing to her, but when we put the cake in front of her she didn’t like it. She fussed and spit the cake and icing out. She did like to share with me and Mr. P.

After eating her cake Baby P was covered in icing and she had to have a quick bath. She was not expecting a midday bath and she definitely let us know!

Afterwards everyone gathered in the living room while Baby P opened her gifts. She was definitely more interested in visiting with her guests and eating tissue paper. In the future, I think I will have her open her gifts after the party.

I know that first birthday parties are mostly for the parents and that Baby P won’t remember this when she’s older. However, I am so glad that we threw a party. It was wonderful to celebrate Baby P’s life with so many of our family members and friends. Mr. P and I have had a pretty easy transition into parenthood. We adore our girl and can’t imagine life without her. We can’t wait to see what year two brings.
