It’s the time of year again when I start noticing things that I might not otherwise pay attention to. What kinds of things? Well, there’s the link to a monthly coffee subscription service that shows up on my Facebook feed. There’s the cleverly displayed catalogs on my coffee table, pages earmarked and circled. And then there’s that list on my phone, the one that was previously blank, but is now titled ‘Gift Ideas for Mr. O’…
Okay, maybe I’m not just noticing these things. They’re being brought to my attention by a certain someone (ahem, Mr. O) who has a birthday AND Christmas within a few weeks of each other. This year, he’s on a serious coffee kick**. I’m sure you all have that someone in your life (maybe it’s you!) who can’t get enough coffee – and what better way to brighten their holidays than with a new gadget, blend, or accessory that celebrates their obsession. There are only so many coffee mugs you can gift a person, so here’s a list of some ideas that are a little more ‘out there’.
**He wants me to clarify: he is ALWAYS on a coffee kick, there are just new gadgets to GO with his coffee this year *
1) Aeropress – This is Mr. O’s current favourite way to brew coffee; its portable, easy to use and clean, and doesn’t require electricity. Plus, it makes an excellent cup of coffee.
2) Chemex – Friends of ours swear by this pour-over method of coffee brewing. I think the Chemex is beautiful, and I’d love one on my counter (if it weren’t already cluttered with other coffee makers!).
3) Mini-presso – The Mini-presso is on Mr. O’s wish list this year. He loves trying different types of espresso, and how awesome is this portable, easy to clean, on-the-go espresso maker?
4) French Press cozy – Like a tea cozy, this French press cozy will keep your second cup toasty warm while you down the first.
5) Coffee Roaster – if you want to get REALLY serious, what about roasting your own coffee beans? Sharper Image offers a countertop roaster that allows you to control the roast on your own green coffee beans.
6) Blue Bottle/Pilot Coffee/other subscriptions – While some of the coffee lovers in my life are loyal to Tim Hortons or Starbucks, there’s something to be said for discovering a brand new coffee that you haven’t tried before. With a coffee subscription, you can have a variety of roasts, blends and flavours delivered right to your door!
7) homemade coffee creamer – I’ve been told that you don’t truly love coffee unless you drink it black. To that, I say FALSE. I am a sucker for coffee creamer, and it’s easy to make yourself. Pumpkin spice, peppermint, cinnamon, vanilla or almond are just a few of the amazing flavours I’ve seen recipes for; and what a great gift for the coffee-lover in your life.
8) Death Wish Coffee – This coffee is listed as the world’s strongest, with an extra kick of caffeine to get you through the day.
9) Coffee apparel – Wire & Honey has this adorable t-shirt that highlights MY coffee philosophy.
10) Coffee bean necklace – Etsy is a treasure trove of items for the coffee-lover. This sweet coffee bean necklace is an understated way to declare your love of all things caffeinated.
Do you have an amazing coffee-related gift that isn’t on the list?

Last year, DH got a Breville smart grinder with our bonus. It’s like a toy for him – he enjoys grinding coffee every morning with it. His parents got him a bunch of beans for the holidays last year after they saw how much fun he has with the smart grinder lol.
