A new year means new book releases to look forward to! I always love seeing what amazing new stories I can introduce to my kids this year and I have my eye on all of these new ones coming in the next few months for my three kids aged 1, 3, and 6.

The Good For Nothing Button – Drake loves the Piggie and Gerald series by Mo Willems and for Christmas, I bought him a new series by Mo which has Piggie and Gerald reading a book as the intro and then another story appears within the book. So far there are only 2 books in this series, The Cookie Fiasco & We Are Growing so when I saw this new one coming I knew Drake would be interested.

Little Red Riding Sheep – Cale Atkinson is a favorite author/illustrator in this house. Drake has all 3 of his other books and so when I saw this new one, a twist on a classic tale no doubt, I knew Drake would love it. All the changes to the original story are right up his alley in humor and questioning so I think this is a perfect addition to his growing collection.

The Storm Whale in Winter – Drake took out the Storm Whale story for his school’s library and really liked it. It’s about a little boy who befriends a whale so I think he will be excited to know there is another book in the series to read now.

Everywhere Wonder – For a little boy that is ever so curious about the world and is brimming with questions, I just fell in love with the title right off the bat  It sounds like the little boy in the story is just as imaginative and keen to learn all this amazing world has to offer.  I hope Drake can see himself in this kind of inquisitive little boy.

If I Had a Little Dream – I fell in love with the illustrations of the book but a peek inside made me love it even more. The idealistic words set along with the gorgeous illustrations are abstract and yet so familiar to little children and I think Juliet is just starting to get the age where these kinds of thoughts are perfect for her ever expanding growth in understanding the world around her.

Little Fox in the Forest – I haven’t introduced many wordless books to Juliet yet though Drake has quite a few in his own collection. I felt this story was probably a perfect one for her with a tiny fox making off with a little girl’s doll. I would love to share this one with Juliet and see how she interprets the story line.

Mr. Fuzzbuster Knows He is the Favorite – As a middle child I feel this story might be perfect for Juliet somehow. I have a feeling that in the end the story shares how everyone is the favorite for different reasons and I hope this message can ring true for Juliet who is still so special in her own sparkly, twirly, mischievous way.

Not Quite a Narhwal – A unicorn who thinks he is a narwhal? How could I not want to read more. The darling cover just makes me wish I could have it now!

Dance – Hooray for another Matthew Van Fleet book! We love all of them and Fiona especially right now is captivated by interactive stories and Van Fleet’s are her favorite. I have been waiting months for this to finally come out. She is going to love it and I know my other 2 will appreciate it too. Story time is going to be so fun when we have this finally!

Gossie and Friends Say Good Night – Fiona has inherited Drake’s expansive Gossie collection. I love that he is passing on these books to Fiona and that there are still more to add to the collection so they are new for her. The stories are so short and simple and all my kids have gravitated to them.

Watersong – Something about the onomatopoeia of the book makes me think Fiona will love it. At her age, I think that kind of cadence and rhythm works very well.  My best friend sent her a book for Christmas which is similar in a sing-song kind of way and she really enjoys it, so I think she is going to like this one too.

Ellie in Concert – We love Ellie in this house. My friend gave Fiona Ellie’s book for her birthday and I thought the illustrations were so adorable and sweet. I read it a lot to all my kids so I’m excited for a new story in the series.
