I am around 26 weeks pregnant with my third child! It’s time for us to start making some preparations at home for the new baby. We have very few things left from when my last son was born (he’s now six years old) so it’s almost like we are starting anew. I’ve made a list of the essential items we will need, just for the newborn phase. I’ll start with these as they will be used straight away and we can pick up other bits and pieces as we go along. This is my shopping list and hopefully, we will have it all in place before the baby arrives!

1) Cloth Diapers – wipes, nappy bag, change mat.

2) Baby Massage Oil

3) Car Seat/Capsule

4) Moses Basket/Bassinet and Sheets

5) Black and White Mobile – the Munari (available on Etsy) is the traditional Montessori newborn black and white mobile but we also love the swallow mobileBlack and white images including books are good to have for the newborn too!

6) Organic Cotton Clothing – bodysuits, socks, tops, singlets, bottoms, kimono style are perfect for the newborn stage.

7) Baby Carrier – such as the Ergo Baby Carrier.

8) Baby Blankets

9) Play Mat

10) Topponcino and Covers – a Montessori thin mattress to hold a newborn in the first few weeks to provide comfort and stability. Etsy is a good place to find these.

There are a lot of items we might pick up that I don’t consider essential such as a baby bath. Also, there is no pram on our list. Some Montessori families use a pram, if not overused I don’t have anything against them but we rarely used our pram with my last son so we will skip it this time and see how it works out. I’ve also breastfed my other two sons so I am not anticipating needing any feeding supplies, however we can always get them last minute if needed.

Is anyone else expecting around the same time? I’d love to hear what is on your ‘essentials’ list!
