Anybody else have a kid obsessed with popsicles? I have two of them. They would do just about anything for a popsicle.

After weeks of forking over the too much moolah for the healthier versions of my kids’ favorite summer treat, I realized that it would be pretty simple to be making these myself. This time last year, I discovered these amazing molds made by Zoku. They are made of silicone and the popsicles pop right out. They are also the most perfect teeny size. After a lot of use and two moves, we lost several of the little sticks (they can be replaced but are currently out of stock online), so I bought another set for this summer. These adorable little ring pops by Koji are very similarly made, but are even cooler! We also have a set of these larger ones, but these are my least favorite of the ones we have because they tend to start melting before my kids finish them, and therefore usually end up making a mess. They would be great for bigger kids though! And of course, if you don’t have any fancy molds, old fashioned paper dixie cups and popsicle sticks would work just fine too!

We experimented throughout last summer with recipes, usually using random things I happened to have in the fridge. Eventually we landed on a combination of frozen fruit, yogurt, and milk or water.

This summer I found an amazing new ingredient. This Greek yogurt by Oikos is pretty much the holy grail of yogurt in our world. It has 15 grams of protein per carton, only 6 grams of sugar (all from the dairy), no artificial sweeteners (they use stevia instead), and it actually tastes pretty good. (Note: this is not a sponsored post…I just really like this yogurt!) We typically flavor plain Greek yogurt ourselves, but since finding this stuff at Costco, I have slacked off a bit in the home-sweetening department.

Using flavored yogurt instead of plain has made our recipe even more delicious, and since these are SO simple to make, I thought I would share with you! Since they are made from (mostly) whole ingredients and don’t contain added sugar, I have no hesitation letting the kids eat them all day long if they want. They think it’s pretty amazing every time I let them eat popsicles as part of their breakfast (or lunch, or dinner). And any time I can amaze my little people with food (especially my pickiest little person) I call that a win!

3 Ingredient Breakfast Popsicles:

  • 2 individual containers of Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (Strawberry is our favorite, but you could use any flavor)
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup milk (more or less as needed for blending)

Add yogurt and frozen strawberries to the blender.

Add milk a little at a time, until you have just enough to blend into a thick liquid.

Pour mixture into molds. Have your trusty assistant(s) add the sticks. Freeze several hours (the small ones will freeze solid within about 3 hours. Large ones take longer).

Making these together is a quick and easy activity that both of my kids enjoy. Which is good, because as fast as they go through these, we make them all the time!
