Now that I’m past the half way mark in this pregnancy, I’ve started dusting off our baby stuff and organizing what we need. After going through our storage bins, I divided everything into what worked and what didn’t work. In hindsight, this step probably should have been done before going into the attic, but that’s not what I did. What was striking was how many pumping related items ended up in the “didn’t work” pile. Here are the items that ended up being the most useful for pumping at work.
For Daycare
1) Inchbug custom labels – The orbit bottle labels and the clothing tag labels are an adorable and easy way to label all Max’s things. I bought a bunch of these when Max was little with his full name on it. I wish I bought labels with just our last name so we could reuse them for baby number 2. The clothing labels also come off easily if you decide to sell or donate the clothes later on.
2) Tommee Tippee Bottles – We were lucky with Max in that he wasn’t picky about bottles. For the first year we had about 12 9oz bottles, which was the perfect number so we didn’t feel like we were constantly washing to reuse bottles.
For Pumping –
3) Medela Breastmilk Cooler – Instead of carrying 4 Medela Breast Milk Storage Bottles I carried 2 Tommee Tippee Bottles with Tommee Tippee storage lids. I pumped twice a day while at work and I never needed more than 2 9oz bottles.
4) Tommee Tippee Storage Lids and Tommee Tippee Breast Pump Adaptor – These were two of the best pumping accessories I found. Initially I was pumping into the small Medela storage bottles then transferring the milk to the Tommee Tippee Bottles once I got home. This doubled the number of bottles that needed to be washed and was a pretty big waste of time. Once I discovered the breast pump adaptor and storage lids, I was able to pump directly into the bottles that Max would be drinking out of.
5) Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags – Freezer storage bags are a must have for storing milk at home. There are a lot of different options, but these ones worked great for us and never had an issue leaking in the freezer.
6) Extra Tubing and Membranes for Medela Pump – I ordered 2 extra sets of tubing so I could keep a set at home and a set in my pumping bag. The extra tubing isn’t expensive and it saved the headache of needing to remember to pack the tubes and membrane every morning.
7) Quick Clean Breast Pump Wipes – These wipes are great to easily and quickly clean the breast pump accessories. It isn’t going to be the most thorough cleaning, but it cleans the accessories enough until you get home.
8) Medela sanitizing bag – Instead of sterilizing breast pump parts in boiling water, these reusable bags let you steam everything in the microwave in just 90 seconds. As a mom with a small infant, these are a huge time saver and worth every penny.

@snowjewelz: I forgot about the car charger adaptor, that definitely came in handy for several long road trips.
As for the handsfree pumping bra, I know a lot of women who really liked that, but for some reason it never worked well for me. I wanted it to work, because the woman on the packaging looks so efficient on her laptop while pumping!

@Mrs. Ice Cream: I know people who cut holes in their sportsbra as pumping bras too!

I know not everyone can swing it-but a second pump to leave at work enabled me to exclusively pump 10 months. No toting it around.

I like the inch bug labels too. Good idea in the last name. I had to order a set for my baby girl.
I like using a nursing cover when I pump. I also used a hair rubber band attached to my nursing bra clip to the pump cups so I could be hands free.

I got 2 extra sets of shields for my pump. I put each pair in a zip lock bag and put them in my pump bag every day. It allowed me to pump during the work day and not have to wash until until i got home.

Also, hands free pumping bra, amenda milk storage bags with the attachment that lets you pump directly into them ( compatible with medela attachments), blanket for my lap to catch spills, and occasionally a video of my baby laughing on my phone to jump start let down
