Baby Pizza’s birthday was sandwiched between two family weddings, one of which required a road trip, so I didn’t have much time to think of what to do for her second birthday. I know it’s pretty simple to make a two-year-old happy on her birthday, but I still felt a bit guilty because I was thinking about it so last minute.
We started the morning of her birthday by singing happy birthday to her in the crib as a family. I really treasure the moments that Lil’ Pizza can get excited and involved in showering her sister with loving gestures. Baby Pizza loves singing happy birthday, so of course that was a great start to her morning. Mr. Pizza made our family a “fancy” breakfast; we turn certain holidays (like Valentine’s Day and our anniversary) or any meal, really, into a fancy one by giving the girls plastic wine glasses and giving them orange juice. Afterwards, the girls and I met with some mom friends and their kids which wasn’t too out of the ordinary. I just made sure to bring some extra sweets to share.
This girl sure knows how to enjoy her bacon. | Cheesy smiles and pictures with her big sister are the best.
In the afternoon, while Baby Pizza was taking her nap, Lil’ Pizza and I made a cake together. I am not a baker but with Betty Crocker and Lil’ Pizza’s help, we were able to make a tasty cake. Lil’ Pizza loved that she was able to help me make the cake for her little sister.
When Mr. Pizza came home from work, we celebrated with dinner and cake and more singing of course. We got Baby Pizza a scooter since she was always trying to use Lil’ Pizza’s scooter. After dinner, the girls enjoyed riding their scooters around the block together.
When the weekend hit, we had an early lunch at a cute restaurant called The Choo Choo. Our burgers were delivered right to us on a model train that circled around the counter by the booths. Her birthday cupcake even came lit on a train. We were also extra lucky because we witnessed three other birthday celebrations before us, which meant hearing their birthday song four times while we were there. In the afternoon, we took the girls to one of their favorite indoor play areas, Yu Kids Island.
This place might have to become a birthday tradition.
It was a sweet and simple birthday celebration with just our family. Things never have to get so elaborate, especially when they are so little, so I’m glad we were able simply enjoy our time together and celebrate an important milestone in Baby Pizza’s life.

Let me ask you about the scooter. I keep hearing about these, although they are not a big thing in my town for whatever reason (I have never seen one in person)! Is 2 the appropriate age? Does she understand how to use it? What brand did you get? Thank you! Happy bday!!

@wrkbrk: We love the Microkickboard scooters! If you check out their website, you could see the different ranges each scooter is appropriate for. We love this scooter better than one like the Radio Flyer first scooter because when you lean your body into the handle left or right, the scooter moves in that direction. She’s still working on the turning part but she’s close. It definitely helped that her sister had one so she knew what to do but kids learn pretty quick. Definitely check out their scooters. You could read many reviews on Amazon as well.
