Now that I’m in my 3rd trimester, I can no longer get away with wearing anything but maternity clothes. Even with my maternity tanks, my tummy is poking out on the bottom! Here’s what I plan on wearing over the next couple months.
1.) Maxi Dresses: I love maxi dresses because they hide the most swollen parts (thighs and legs) and they’re perfect for the summer. I also like how I can wear them anytime – I don’t have to be pregnant! It is my go-to outfit when I plan on going out anywhere. When I throw on a loose cardigan, it’s my most slimming outfit.
2.) Flowy tops and maternity leggings: I love comfortable clothing and this doesn’t get any more comfortable! I have been liking this brand called “Chris and Carol” for maternity and plus size wear. They have a lot of really cute designs that are totally my style! They have a lot of their clothes for a cheaper price on Zulily.
3.) Tunics and maternity jeans: I only have ONE pair of maternity jeans from Motherhood Maternity and I love them! I always prefer the over-the-belly option because the ones that cut under the belly tend to pinch and leave marks. I love these light colored, ripped jeans that happen to be in style right now. I typically get the super soft denim so that it’s breathable. (The ripped holes also help give you a nice breeze!)
Postpartum wardrobe:
1.) Breastfeeding friendly nightgown: I saved these from my first postpartum days because I basically wore a nightgown 90% of the time in the first month. It saved me from having to worry what I would wear and since my “sensitive area” was still healing, I didn’t want to wear pants. I wanted to be able to freely go to the bathroom as easy as possible. I remember being really sweaty and having stains all over my nightgown, so I would ideally want around 2-3 of these!
2.) Comfortable robe: I got the Jessica Simpson robe + nightgown set from Motherhood Maternity and loved it! It was a bit expensive (around $50) but the material is really stretchy, soft and I like how the robe belt is attached in the back so you don’t lose it. I have another robe from Gap that’s terrycloth material for colder weather. (Bonus points if the robe has pockets!) I noticed Marshalls and TJ Maxx have a ton of robes that are a lot cheaper. I’m a bit sensitive when it comes to my arms getting cold, so I like having a 3/4 sleeve covering for my arms. It’s also helpful to have a covering in your arm area since the baby’s head will be leaning against it often for feedings. (Sweaty baby heads!)
3.) Maternity bras: If I absolutely have to leave the house (and see other human beings) then I needed to wear a bra. I purchased a few from Amazon and they seemed totally comfortable and inexpensive. I wouldn’t spend too much on them because I would only be wearing them for a short period of time. I purchased a set from Amazon because it came with bra extenders. H&M also has some good maternity bras for about $20!
4.) Nursing tanks: If I wanted to wear some “normal” clothes around the house, I would be wearing a nursing tank. It’s nice to be able to wear a tank top with a semi built in bra. I would probably be wearing mostly nursing pads anyway in addition so I wouldn’t have to worry too much about coverage. I pretty much lived in these tank tops from Motherhood Maternity! Even having it on in lieu of a bra because it seemed to kill two birds with one stone. (Chest support + a shirt!)
. . . . .
What are some of the things you love/loved to wear during your last trimester/4th trimester days?

I only wore comfy night gowns and or robes post baby like a month or longer too! It was easy for nursing, going to the bathroom, and healing, and I wanted to stay as comfortable as possible! I love all the stuff you have listed! I wore lots of dresses, maxi dresses, and tunics with leggings or longer sweaters with leggings once winter came. I often bought clothes I could continue to wear after having baby.

I’ve been searching for good ideas of what to wear postpartum! Thanks. I’m 36 weeks soooo I should get ready I guess. I went the tank top/sweatpants route last time because wearing (loose and comfortable) pants is more comfortable for me but it will be hotter this time so the nightgown suggestions might be perfect.
