How many weeks along are you? 40
Due date? September 27 (yesterday!)
How much weight have you gained? around 30–35 pounds
Symptoms? tired, sore, and mentally “done” with being pregnant; also some shooting pains down my leg sometimes from sciatica nerve
How is baby looking? Well, according to my doctor he is measuring around seven and a half pounds as of yesterday—but that is exactly what they told me when I was pregnant with Little Cotton Candy, and he ended up weighing over nine! Either way, Baby CC is running out of room in my womb and his movements are getting more subdued (though I still get the random alien belly from time to time when he starts pushing out against my stomach).
How is Little Cotton Candy adjusting? Considering we moved two weeks ago and he started a new school, I would say he is adjusting great. Little Cotton Candy has been getting more and more comfortable staying at my mom’s house, which will come in handy after the baby gets here.
How is Mr. Cotton Candy adjusting? He is doing great and really excited for the baby to get here. He has been a rock star with helping unpack, organize, and decorate the new house…along with taking the lead with Little CC when he is home so I can get some rest.
How much planning have you done? At this point, I’m ready. All the baby gear has been purchased or borrowed, the bassinet is mostly set up in our bedroom (still need to wash the cover), baby clothes are washed, folded, and organized, and my hospital bag is packed. We even picked out paint for the nursery and started painting! It may or may not get done before baby arrives (probably not), but I’m excited to see the pretty coral color going up on the walls. Luckily, we won’t need the nursery (other than a place to grab clean clothes and diapers from) for a few months yet, as baby will be rooming with us in the master bedroom at first.
Nursery progress
What does the nursery look like? See for yourself! It’s a bit of a mess at the moment. If you look closely at the gray wall, you can see how dirty it is and why we needed to paint it ASAP. And that is after I wiped it down with a cleaning wipe and then went over it again with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Did I mention the people who owned the house before us had five kids? It’s amazing what good shape everything was in considering!
What are you missing the most? I miss my non-pregnant body and being able to sleep comfortably.
What’s the most exciting thing about this stage? I’m getting so excited for the labor and delivery experience. I had a great experience with my hospital and nurses last time, and I’m ready to do it again, this time without an epidural (if I’m lucky enough to have a smooth labor). I had an OB appointment yesterday and was excited to find out that I am two to three centimeters dilated and 60% effaced (which is a huge improvement from a week ago)…but still no contractions…womp womp. I’m trying my hardest not to be impatient, but I am so ready to meet this baby!
