Sequined Shamrock Pin Kid Craft

Add some green sparkles to your St. Patrick’s Day as you craft this cute shamrock pin with your child! It’s easy for kids to decorate their own shamrock with sequins, but the result will be something you’ll be proud to wear too.

DIY Sequin St. Patrick's Day Pin

Older kids should be able to handle this project on their own. If you’re making these with preschoolers or younger elementary-aged kids, it’s perfect to work on together. It’s also a great way for kids to practice fine motor skills. They can use their pincer grasp or try working with a tweezer to pick up and place the sequins. For my pins, I chose gold and a few shades of green sequins. But since rainbows are also big around St. Patrick’s Day, you could have a whole rainbow of sparkles on your shamrock!

Cut the Felt Pieces

Use the template to cut out the shamrock and tab piece. To make a more substantial pin, cut out two shamrocks to layer them together with a thin layer of glue.

Craft felt works for this project, but I find that using wool blend felt results in a better end product. It’s one way to elevate a kid-craft!

Attach the Safety Pin with the Felt Tab

Open a safety pin and use the tab of felt to glue it in place with craft glue.

Add Dots of Glue to the Shamrock

Make dots of glue on the front of the shamrock. Older kids can do this on their own, but if you’re working with younger children, it’s helpful to do this step for them.

If your child is likely to work fast, you can fill the whole shape with dots of glue. Otherwise, work in small sections at a time.

Place Sequins on the Dots of Glue

Encourage your child to place a sequin on each dot of glue.

Fill the Whole Shamrock with Sequins

Fill the shape with sparkly sequins!

Make a Border of Sequins

You can also glue around the edge of the shape to make a sequined border. This method requires less precision with this sequins…and the glue.

Let the Glue Dry on the Shamrocks

Give the glue plenty of time to dry. The more glue on this project, the slower it will dry. But even the messy spots will dry clear after about 24 hours.

Don’t have sequins? Glitter works for this too! Want to avoid glitter? Try glitter glue instead!
