It’s no secret — I love Halloween. All holidays really, but Halloween is especially fun. The last time I posted about our family Halloween costumes was in 2013. That made me realize two things: I have been a blogger on Hellobee for a very long time and I should probably do an update.

So far every Halloween our family has done a group theme for our costumes. We thought it was cute when they were babies, and now it has turned into one of our family traditions. As the years have gone by that group has also started to include aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In order to do that, we have to pick a theme carefully. There has to be enough costumes ideas to accommodate 15-20 people. We usually start talking about costumes as soon as one Halloween is done, but we don’t actually settle on costumes until summer time. That is when my mom and I get started on designing and making costumes.

In 2014, the kids were three and five.We decided to go with the Wizard of Oz. I had read them the book at bed time and then we had watched a bunch of the movie versions. The kids absolutely loved it so we decided it would work well for Halloween. My daughter was especially excited about getting a stuffed dog as part of her costume.

It wouldn’t be The Wizard of Oz without the core characters. We started with Dorthy, The Scarecrow, The Tin man and The Cowardly Lion.

We convinced Grammy and Grandpa Train to come as the Lollipop gang and the Lullaby League. Uncle Train joined in as the Mayor of Munchkin City.

Another Uncle helped pass out candy and possibly scared some of the older kids as the apple throwing tree.

Aunt Train and Great Aunt Train joined us as Theodora from Oz the Great and Powerful and a citizen of Oz. We had a Peter Pan and Wendy join us too.

In the end we had 14 join in our group costume that year and we had a blast. As we sat on the couch and kicked up our feet at the end of a long night of Halloween fun, we started thinking about what we would do in 2015 that could top the fun we had this year.
