2016 probably gave my mom and I the most trouble as far as costume making goes. We had to butcher a lot of available patterns, buy old 90s patterns from etsy and some we had to just make up as we went along. In 2016 the kids were 7 and 5 and we went for the X-men. Not the new x-men, where they all were black leather jump suits, but the old school 90’s cartoon.

This kids picked their favorite character. We had Gambit complete with light up cards that we had to rig up to a belt under his armor. We made his form a kid’s rain jacket pattern, a Thor costume chest plate and we his head piece was a modified ski hood. IMG_9524

Cyclops was a little upset when we couldn’t actually make lasers shoot out of his eyes. I know, epic mom fail right there. I can’t actually give them super powers. But after he got over the disappointment he had a blast.

X-men would not be complete without Wolverine. He was making his meanest wolverine face in this picture. The hood was a little tricky to wear because he usually has glasses on, but he did wear it for pictures and his parade at school.

My youngest picked Jubilee. She didn’t really like the shooting stars we made for her hands but she loved her sparkly blue boots. In fact she wore them the rest of the winter until the toes wore out.

I was Jean Grey as the dark phoenix and Mr. Train was Sabertooth. This one was tricky for me. Like most people I am not a huge fan of spandex outfits. But what is a mom to do when your kids want to be super heroes? So I put on my spanx and wore a spandex dress.  IMG_9497

Halloween wouldn’t be complete without our extended family.  Grandma and Papa Train went with Magneto and Mystique.

We had Storm and Cyclops.

And Uncle Train came as Juggernaut and we had an epic X-men battle in the front yard.

We had another family join in with the new generation of X-men. They came as Professor X, Storm and Beast.  \We love having more and more additions to our crazy Halloween ideas.

It was a pretty fantastic X-men Halloween.
