After a hospitalization and an abdominal scope, I was diagnosed with cyclical vomiting syndrome.

I have talked previously about my diet and foods I avoid. Now that I’m out of the hospital, I want to crack down on my diet even more and try to figure things out better. In addition to this diet, I plan to also consume bone broth and Gatorade, along with herbs and some spices. I am not eliminating garlic, for instance: I can’t go without it on top of cutting out all the other things I really enjoy! I am also plan to drink tea, but will not be consuming coffee (which will be really hard!).

After two weeks on this diet, I will need to add one additional food every four days. Remember to always talk to your doctor or dietician before attempting a super restrictive diet. Mine are on board encouraging me to eat whatever I can. This elimination plan is still pretty well-rounded, with lots of vegetables. As far as adding things back in, once the two weeks is up and my system is reset I can have something new every four days. I’m going to start with fish, then shellfish, then other proteins. Then other vegetables and fruits. At the very end, I’ll try introducing foods I am pretty sure bother me, cutting them back out after four days if they bother me. These include gluten, dairy, corn, beans, chocolate, alcohol, and coffee. I will also be adding supplements to my diet that the book and my doctor recommend.

Here was my shopping list for the next 2 weeks:

  • Plain oatmeal
  • Ground turkey, Turkey sausage, turkey bacon

I plan to also buy a 8-9 pound turkey breast and cook it in the Crock-Pot to this recipe. I’ll have some for dinners and lunches through the week. I will be using broth instead of the wine and omitting the mustard.

  • Snacks: sweet potato chips, kale chips, dried pears, pears
  • Broccoli (I am to eat vegetables from the Brassica family: always cooked)
  • Cauliflower
  • Brussels sprouts
  •  Kale
  • Basmati rice
  • Sweet and regular potatoes
  • Ghee
  • Sunflower oil

I’m trying to reframe my diet by thinking of it in positive terms rather than restrictive ones. I’m reading up on capsule diets, a way to limit your menu in order to get really good at a few recipes, not be overwhelmed by grocery shopping, etc.

And here are some recipes I plan to make:

Breakfasts (I haven’t normally eaten breakfast but am trying to start eating more frequent small meals including breakfast): plain oatmeal with honey and turkey bacon or turkey sausage

Lunches: Kale Turkey Rice Bowls

I will be omitting the jalapeno, onion, cilantro, and almonds, and using sunflower oil. I will make the chicken, potato, and kale mixture ahead and pack it up in Tupperware, then use the instant packs of Basmati rice.

Ground Turkey, Kale, and Cauliflower Soup:

Increasing kale and cauliflower; omitting other vegetables. Sunflower oil instead of coconut.

I will be using shredded turkey meat from the slow-cooker turkey.

Dinner:

Crock-Pot turkey (no skin), mashed potatoes, turkey gravy (with gluten free rice flour and ghee), or roasted sweet potatoes; vegetable sides (Brussels sprouts, broccoli)

Brussels sprouts, turkey, and rice casserole

I will be using turkey bacon and sunflower oil, and not using eggs. This is another one that uses the leftover turkey. I am also once again omitting the onion.

Dessert: Honey roasted pears

Omitting the frozen yogurt.

I am actually excited about these recipes. They look good, with limited ingredients. I am hoping it also helps keep my symptoms under control. But I think many of you might enjoy these recipes even without a restrictive diet!

In two weeks, when I start the adding part of my diet, I will come back and review how this diet has gone so far, and how the recipes worked out.

I am hopeful that going on this strict diet will help me manage my symptoms and help my CVS go into remission. I also hope Snowy will enjoy some of these recipes. She generally enjoys turkey, sweet potatoes, and mashed potatoes, and some soups, so she may enjoy these as well.

Has anyone ever been on a super-restrictive elimination diet? What about a “capsule diet”?
