We have had 1 day warning of a lockdown so I’ve been crazy busy preparing to move back to El Nido tomorrow. As a Korean-American, the stark contrast between the reactions of the two countries have been sobering. The Philippines is woefully unprepared, but drastic measures are being taken now and we are quite remote. How are you feeling about the coronavirus?

The US is not prepared! Feeling worried after reading the stories from Italy

They have cancelled schools here until April….so I’m feeling unprepared to be with my kids endlessly without the option to go virtually anywhere. But I’m lucky, we live by some great wilderness and the beach, those cant close. I’m trying to look at it as a gift…my kids are only young once. If I can keep them reading a bit, not killing eachother…maybe I can teach them useful skills like baking and cooking. I feel totally prepared RE: food, staples, etc. But not emotionally prepared at all.

All the unknown and uncertainty is getting to me. It’s hard to put the media down. But I’m going to try and step away this weekend and just enjoy time with my family.
Hope your move goes smoothly. It will be interesting to hear what it is like there during this time.

I’m nervous about the unknown aspects of all of this. I know it’s going to get a lot worse and I wish people would take it more seriously. I shared this yesterday on the boards, but someone at my husband’s company died yesterday and another person tested positive so that really brought it home hard. There is some talk here (WA state) about locking up the state and imposing a domestic travel ban and I’m all for it. Whatever we need to do to slow or stop this thing.
I get beyond frustrated when I see people treating this like a vacation, though.

@helloperidot: someone died in my parents’ city and she had just come back from the philippines. Living in a 3rd world country we are less prepared than the us, which sadly isn’t saying much at this point. I worry for my parents! I am on living on an island without any cases yet, but I am covering the news for it so I know everything there is to know about coronavirus here and it’s scary!!!!

Glad you’ll at least be able to be all together for the lockdown. Stay safe

Here in the states, working parents are rightfully freaking out. It’s one thing to just be stressed because you have your kids at home for weeks. But it’s another when you can’t afford to stay home with them. Praying employers handle this in a responsible way. As of right now, I don’t know what our family is going to do. Don’t have enough sick time built up, and can’t afford to go unpaid.

Regardless of WHO’s stance, I think this is pandemic. Asides from prevalent health complications, this plague has eaten into the very fabric of societies.
Economic, social, religious, financial……activities are constantly threatened. I can only hope an appropriate, cheap, and accessible resolution is discovered in a good time.
