The last post on here was published on July 7, 2020, about 4 months after our still-ongoing lockdown in the Philippines. I stopped updating Hellobee without any explanation, and for that I apologize. I’ve just been feeling overwhelmed by things.
1. My laptop broke. There is no computer store here. I just got it fixed yesterday.
2. I’ve been going through several bouts of depression throughout the pandemic.
3. Mr. Bee has also been struggling with the ongoing trial for his mom’s case. The way it works here is there are monthly hearings, once a month for several years. Definitely different than what we’re used to.
4. Facebook randomly shut down the Hellobee Facebook page, which seemed like a sign.
5. I started focusing on local projects. I’ve done animal rescue the entire time I’ve lived in the Philippines, but being home 24/7 enabled me to do much more of it. I also built a beautiful children’s library for the kids here, many of whom haven’t been in school since the pandemic started. But due to ongoing lockdowns and spikes in cases due to Delta, we haven’t been able to open it. It got me really down for a while because I’d put so much into it, and it was very anticlimactic not being able to open. Then when we finally did open, we had a big storm and the library flooded.
We won’t live here forever, so the library was a passion project we wanted to leave for the kids of El Nido. We have so many goals for our library beyond lending books, and hopefully we can get to those again eventually.
To be honest, I don’t know what the future of Hellobee holds. But I missed blogging and the community we have, so I’m going to try coming back if you’ll have me. What have you been up to for the past year?

I’m so thrilled to see a new blog post! I’m sorry you’ve found the pandemic so tough, for the reasons listed and I’m sure 1000 other things.
The library looks so lovely! I’m sure the children of El Nido, for generations to come, will love learning there.
As for if we’ll have you back? Welcome home Mrs. Bee. We’ve missed you!

That library is amazing! You are continuing to make a difference for so many. It’s been hard thinking about the future, seeing things get worse now as kids are starting school. I would love to see more posts.
I just finished Crying in Hmart and it reminded me of your travel posts and I wondered how you are doing. That is a really good book for anyone dealing with grief for losing a parent.

So happy to see the blog active again – thank you so much for all the recent posts! I’ve been reading for about 8 (!) years and always loved everyone’s updates and advice. It’s also wonderful to see beautiful El Nido photos again…we stayed on Lagen island during our absolute favorite vacation ever before kids about 10 years ago and are always dreaming about going back. Maybe once COVID is over (little worried about Duterte too TBH) we can make it back because kids are finally old enough to tolerate the flights!
Thanks again for your return to the blog!

Wow! I am so happy to see this post. In fact, so thankful for it that I made an account so that I can contribute via comment for the first time ever. I remember finding Hellobee when I was just beginning to TTC my first baby. I would scan the blogs and forums daily dreaming about the future and gleaning wisdom from so many other parents! Eventually I got pregnant, the baby was born, and that baby turns SIX tomorrow. Seeing this post reminded me that Hellobee feels like a comforting home — even to a lurker like me. The pandemic has exacerbated the fact that social media is very anxiety-inducing for me, so blogs feel like a safe, cozy, welcoming place to come to. Several times over the past year, I’ve checked on here to see if there were any updates. I actually teared up reading this post and decided to make an account and recommit to checking in on this community with more intentionality as well. I especially love the library and the pandemic actually inspired us to put a free little library in our front lawn for the kids of our fairly underserved neighborhood. It gives me a lot of joy! Thank you for coming here with your honesty and your update. The familiarity feels so good.
