Once we started nap training Charlie, I printed out the nap routine I created for him and taped it to his wall, so that anyone else watching him would know what to do. I was a stickler for doing everything in the exact same order before every single nap so that Charlie could identify his nap cues. But it was a very handy reference for Mr. Bee, since our nanny put Charlie down for naps during the week and I usually put him down for naps on the weekends. It’s also great for babysitters and grandparents. You can see Charlie’s nap routine below for the first year of his life. Now that he’s older, we just give him a bottle and plop him in his crib and he puts himself to sleep.

I love the idea of posting the schedule so everyone involved can see. It may be very simple to follow, but one wrong step breaks the routine.

I have our routine printed on pretty paper and taped to LO’s dresser – it helps people to give step-by-step instructions.

Routine is so important for kids in general; and starting as early as you can. Makes such a huge difference in how well your child responds to it. Although, at 30 months, we are experiencing A LOT of stalling which I hear is very common around this age. I’m sure your form will come in handy when baby #2 comes and my parents come to help out. Someone will need to put him down when the hubby goes back to work!
