I am really excited to be one of the newest members to the Hellobee community. The minute I stumbled on the site, I loved it <in the midst of a “what are we going to do about this sleep problem we are having” moment…more on that later>.

I’m Mrs. Scooter and I have a seven month old baby girl. Her name is Baby O.

My spouse and I have been together for five years, married for two. We love to travel and have globetrotted on four continents so far. We are both very active – running, yoga, crossfit, walking, anything outdoors. We have a dog. We both established careers. We are mystified and delighted daily with trying to muddle our way through this thing called parenting. We are just like a lot of couples out there. The only difference is we are two women.

Hmmm…it may get confusing, seeing as my name is Mrs. Scooter and so is hers. Okay, so she will be Missus Scooter (on the left) and I will be Mrs. Scooter (on the right) .

Missus Scooter and I were married in August 2010. About a year later we decided to start a family. There are some definite perks to having two females in the relationship… for starters, it is not a given who will have the baby! Since we used a donor and fertility clinic to become pregnant, I plan on writing a post about that. In short, I conceived fairly quickly and had a healthy pregnancy. We live in Northern California and have a wonderful community.

I chose the Scooter character because when Missus Scooter and I went on our very first date, we shared a very funny inside joke about a Scooter. It seems fitting.

We have hippie tendencies and chose to have a home birth. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions of my pregnancy. I hope I can share my experience with this community and anyone who is considering a home or “au natural” birth. I would love to talk about the experience and offer my insights. Aside from making me incredibly grateful for my “natural” birth, it also gave me a huge appreciation and deep respect for birth in general, any way and anywhere we bring our babies into the world. I do not believe one way is better than another, every birth is unique and different.

Baby O is a thoughtful, purposeful baby who studies and thinks first before reacting. She’s on the serious side. She’s a great sleeper (knocking on wood every single time I say this) and likes to play on her own. She’s a happy baby, making us happy parents. She doesn’t have any teeth yet but she’s a great eater and is doing good with solids (we chose to do baby led weaning). She is still breastfed a vast majority of the time. She’s just starting to scoot around (no crawling yet).

Just like every mama, I think these first several months have flown by. I wish I had started this blog earlier, as a sort of chronicle for Baby O and me to look back on. But I’m happy to be here now. Being part of Hellobee, I am hoping to become more insightful and compassionate to the phases my baby is going through; I am looking to share our experiences together in this community and to assure myself I am not crazy and I am not alone (and neither are you!); and I am hoping to have a few laughs along the way. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?
