We’re back for the Trikester’s four month update. When I was pregnant, this is the baby I dreamed of having. It took us a few months to get here, but now I’ve got a little guy who grins more than he cries and amazes us on a daily basis with his crazy rapid development.

Sleep

We hit the four-month sleep regression – I wasn’t sure I’d know it when it arrived, but it’d be almost impossible to ignore. The Trikester went from waking up at a manageable 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM to waking up at 10:30 PM, 12:30 AM, 2:30 AM, and 4:30 AM. Sometimes he wants to nurse, sometimes he wants to scream, sometimes he wants to giggle and play. Oh so fun.

On a brighter note, he’s been taking great naps in the Rock and Play. He usually sleeps for a two hour stretch at some point during the day, but then also sneaks in a few other naps that last between 45 minutes and an hour. It’s crazy to have that much baby-free time to get things accomplished – I actually vacuumed and mopped this morning – so unusual!

Food

Nursing and pumping continue. I haven’t had to rely a whole lot on my freezer stash – somehow we keep making it through the week without having to defrost breast milk. Pumping 3x a day at work is getting annoying; I’m losing an hour of productivity, which hurts, but I can’t drop a session if I want him to have enough to eat the next day.

Disposition

The beginning of the month was rough. For a while, every time I checked my Wonder Weeks calendar there was a big old black cloud hanging over us. I think we’re through the worst of it, though, and he’s generally what I would consider a happy baby.

It sure is a HUGE change from the first couple months of his life. He smiles constantly and grins from ear to ear when he’s especially pleased.

Milestones

We’ve finally got the baby push-up, and he regularly rolls from front to back and back to front.

He wants to put everything in his mouth – it’s pretty interesting watching him try to eat his fingers and nurse simultaneously. Another new trick is his ability to squeal and screech. He’s definitely that kid you can hear three aisles away in Target. He’s not upset when he’s screaming – more like he’s trying to just express himself.

We’ve also introduced a lovey and some new toys this month, including a Sophie. I’ve had to keep Sophie under lock and key when the baby doesn’t have it, as it’s pretty much a glorified dog toy (I swear the squeak makes the dogs salivate).

Another new toy is a play gym. His feet don’t quite touch the ground, and he flops forward in the seat, so for now this massive piece of baby gear is sitting unused in the middle of our office.  Hurry up and grow, baby boy!

Adventures

Our adventures this month revolved around taking care of two babies! Mr. Tricycle had ACL reconstruction a few weeks ago, and honestly, it was really rough for a while.

This is a whole post in itself, but for now it’s enough to say that I’m glad to have just survived.  On a happy note, spring has finally descended on Upstate New York, so we love our walks; the Trikester has graduated to a front facing carry in the Baby Bjorn, and he just loooves being able to look at everything as we walk around.

Overall, not a bad month, but I’m ready for sleep to return to normal!! Did the four month sleep regression last a full month in your house?
