What happened to my sweet snuggly little newborn??? During the past month Baby Markers has changed SO MUCH. She’s still sweet, of course, but no longer my snuggly little baby who stays where I put her. We’ve hit some major milestones since our last update!
Stats
Baby Markers weighs 10 lbs 6 oz and measures 24 inches long. Still such a peanut! She’s still wearing a mix between newborn and 0-3 month size clothing. She needs the length in the bigger sizes, but most clothing is a little baggy around her waist. At her last pediatrician appointment she was at the 50th percentile for height, weight and head circumference.
Eating
Status quo! Still breastfeeding about 8 times a day. We cluster feed in the mornings and evenings, and most of her feedings are about 2.5 hours apart during the day. My supply has regulated to her needs at this point, so I’m pumping infrequently – only late at night after she’s gone to bed, if I’m not too lazy to get to it. I’ve got a small supply in the freezer that I’d like to increase so I can have some alone time soon. I haven’t been away from her for more than 3 hours since she was born! Mama is going to need an afternoon to herself, and soon.
Sleeping
Baby M sleeps every night from 8pm-5am, almost without fail. Occasionally she’ll wake up around 3am, and I’ll give her a paci and she falls right back to sleep. Just this week we’ve transitioned her from the bassinet to a pack n’ play, still in our bedroom. She just started scooting herself around, so she needed more room to move! We swaddle her every night and I think she knows it’s her cue for bedtime. I thank our lucky stars every single day that she’s such a great sleeper!
Naps… oh, naps. She positively hates them. Some days she takes three 15-minute naps and that’s all I get out of her. Other days she’ll nap for 3 hours in the afternoon. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it! I’ve noticed that on days Mr. Markers is home and if we have visitors, she naps less – she just can’t stand the thought of missing out of anything. So we’re still taking most of our naps in the carseat, stroller, swing or Ergo. I said last month I was going to work on getting her on more of a schedule, so maybe I’ll make this a goal for this month too?! The thing is, she’s usually not fussy and doesn’t seem tired, and she consistently gets 9+ hours of sleep at night, so I don’t worry about it too much.
A Typical Day
(this represents a day that goes according to MY schedule, not hers! like I said, the naps are all over the place but she usually eats around the following times)
5am – wake up!
5:15am – nurse
6am – hang out in our bed while we continue to doze and trade off playing with her
6:30am – nurse
7am – up for the day!
7:30am – nurse
8am – first nap
9:30am – awake
10am – nurse
10:30-12:30 – playtime! time to get out: usually a lunch date, gym class, long walk or trip to the park with our pup
1pm – nurse
1:30 – nap
2:30 – nurse
3-5pm – playtime! lots of tummy time, we hang out under her play gym or on a blanket on the floor
5pm – nurse
5:30pm – nap
6:30pm – nurse
7pm – bedtime routine! bath, story, snuggles with Dad
7:30pm – nurse
8pm – lights out! swaddle, paci, noise machine, lullabies
Development
She is officially rolling over! Right before 12 weeks she rolled from tummy to back during tummy time on the floor… and 3 days later she rolled from back to front. It took her about a week to master both, so now she rolls back and forth while playing on the floor. She is SO strong and holds her head up well while on her tummy. (This is nothing new, she’s rolled a few times from tummy to back since she was one month old, but only if she had leverage or was on a soft surface – it wasn’t until 12 weeks that she really mastered it.)
She also loves to push up on hard surfaces with her feet and prefers that we now hold her standing up. She also likes to arch her back to scoot herself out of whatever I’ve set her in (carseat, swing, my lap) so now we have to be sure to buckle her in tight. Quite the difference when your baby realizes she can move on her own! Some days I feel like she wants to get right up and walk out of the room. Here’s a good example of what she usually does when I set her down:
Baby M had a few other firsts this month: first family vacation, airplane trip, swim in the pool, swim in the ocean and nap on a beach. We spent a week on Sanibel Island and she loved every minute of it. More to come on what it was like traveling with an infant!
She’s also started to focus more intently on her toys, and has even managed to grab ahold of a few things and bring them to her mouth. She’s so curious and loves to look around at everything happening around her. She’s quite the nosy baby!
Likes: rolling over, being held standing up, her giraffe lovey, car rides, stroller walks, swimming, playtime on the floor, being naked, bathtime, chewing on her hands, watching tv (even though she’s not supposed to), ceiling fans, lights
Dislikes: when we lock her into her carseat, swing or bouncy seat, getting stuck on her tummy after rolling over, naps, losing her paci, too much time in any one place, being held lying down like a baby (unless she’s super sleepy)

I’d love to hear about your experiences travelling with a 3 month old. We plan to take a trip to Florida too when LO is around 3 months, so I’d love to hear any travel tips you have, what it was like going to the beach, going to the pool, etc.

Too cute — I know the look in the last picture all too well! Our 3-month-old is also a good nighttime sleeper but a very poor napper. Sometimes it takes us 30 minutes to get him to fall asleep for a 30-minute nap!
