Our first child was conceived after our second round of Clomid in 2011.  We had plans of expanding our family and this summer, I found out I was pregnant.  It was the first time I had ever conceived naturally, but we lost that pregnancy shortly after we found out about it.  And, sadly, we had another loss a month later.

Our game plan was to have a medicated and monitored cycle through our RE.  Because of my history of anovulation and irregular cycles, my RE told me to go back on birth control pills.  This would prevent pregnancy, regulate my cycles, and give us a firm start date of Clomid without having to use Provera (which is something I’ve had to use in the past). I started birth control pills again in August and took them for two cycles.  Now I’m on Cycle Day 1 with a prescription for Clomid called into my pharmacy and a set of instructions in my hands. If this cycle works, I’ll be due around the middle of July, 2014.

The first time I took Clomid, nothing happened — literally.  I didn’t have any side effects and I didn’t ovulate.  My second cycle was increased in dosage and length, and since that’s what works for me, that’s what I’ll be doing this time too.  I’m already mentally preparing myself for the same side effects as before:  I was super sappy and would cry at the drop of a hat, so I’m anticipating a few days of difficult preschool drop offs and a super sappy second birthday party for our little girl.   The risk of multiples is higher for us this time around so we will be monitored very closely.

We are feeling very optimistic this month!  Our fingers are crossed that this cycle is all that it will take to have a successful pregnancy.  But, if I’ve learned anything from infertility, it’s that not everything goes according to plan.
