Shortly after I had Summer, I realized I really needed some sort of daily schedule. When it was just Gemma and me, I had a nice rhythm to my day but things were quite open. Adding a newborn to our family ramped up the amount of work I needed to do to keep our family afloat. There was suddenly a lot more tidying, cooking, project prep and general organization that needed to be accomplished for me to feel like I had a hold of the day.

As a stay at home mom, I have learned that organization of the day is key for keeping my little ones learning and myself feeling like an adult amidst a kid-centered world. I like to add a lot of flexibility into my day, but I also need some sort of guide. I came up with this schedule as a reference for when I felt the day drifting away from me. Sort of a little reminder of what’s coming next.

As I mentioned before, we definitely don’t follow this schedule every day because well that’s life, not some pretty color coated schedule but rather a dance of play, eat, sleep, mommy keep it all together and try to keep the house somewhat tidy. Organization makes me feel calm. Knowing what to expect is also good for the kids so I try to at least hit the important things everyday. I didn’t include Summer’s napping and nursing in this schedule because I didn’t want to complicate it too much and the day is usually quite a lot more jampacked than what is shown here (playdates, doctor’s appointments, errands and outings), but this is my go to.

How do you organize your day when you are at home with your kids?
