Hello Hive! I’m Mrs. Pom Pom, a very excited new member of the Hellobee team! At the moment I live in Washington DC with my dear sweet husband (I guess he’ll be Mr. Pom Pom!) and our 14 month old son Roman. We are expecting a second baby this January (a little sister for Roman) and couldn’t be happier about our soon to be adventures as a family of four!
For now I am a stay at home mom (albeit a domestically challenged one) who loves blogging about my experiences as such, my favorite gear, books, fashion for the littles, parenting inspiration, the wonderful craziness of toddlers… all that good stuff.
Some background on Mr. and Mrs. Pom Pom: Our family’s story began in the fall of 2010, when Mr. Pom Pom and I met at a casino in Atlantic City. (We’re both originally from the southern NJ shore.) We became good friends and then I went and moved myself to Los Angeles when winter hit. He flew out to visit in March, we fell in love, confessed our love, I cried and cried over his departure… so we decided he would move out there for the summer. 4th of July weekend, while having dinner at another casino (this time in Las Vegas), Mr. Pom Pom proposed on a whim just three months into our relationship. He literally passed a jewelry store on his way to the bathroom and decided to seize the moment.
After a blissful summer on the west coast we drove back to NJ for what turned out to be one year. He finished his last semester of school, we planned our wedding and were married April 16th, 2011. We then drove cross country for a second time, destination Monterey CA, what I believe to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, where we lived for another one year stint before Mr. Pom Pom’s career had us driving cross country for a third time to our current home in Washington DC. We seriously love road trips. We’ve been here for two years now and it has recently occurred to me that this is the longest I have been in one place since moving to Manhattan for college ten years ago! (And boy am I getting restless!)
And this is how the babies happened: Around my 26th birthday in Monterey I was struck with an intense case of baby fever. (According to my doctor there, this seemed to be a common occurrence for families passing through.) After developing a rational case to support my new condition, we set out to bring Roman into the world. Six months later, once settled in DC, we became pregnant and baby Roman made us a family of three in July 2013. When Roman was about 8 months old, baby fever struck again! We had always known we’d like our children to be close in age, and convinced it would take even longer to conceive this time, we decided to start trying… well now we’re looking forward to an 18 month age gap!
As much as I love to follow the news of parenting trends and child development studies, I suppose my general philosophy when it comes to motherhood is simply that which I learned from my own mother: to love unconditionally and teach by example… with a dash of her mother’s wisdom to have a wonderful sense of humor about yourself, take it all lightly and cherish the joy. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to create two happy childhoods for my two precious humans, and look forward with much enthusiasm to teaching them to have fun with their lives and never stop learning.
I’m so happy to be sharing here on Hellobee!
