Are you pregnant right now? And going to be pregnant over the summer? I’m sending you cool breezy vibes if you are! Being pregnant in the summer is great because dressing is really easy and pretty inexpensive, but then there is the heat — oh the heat! When it comes to dressing the bump for the hot sticky summer months, I’m all about dresses — any way you can get and keep air flowing is a always a great idea.

Of all the times in your life, the maternity season is the one that calls for a capsule collection most of all. Keeping spending and clothing you will only wear for a short time to a minimum is the name of the game. So I put together a summertime maternity capsule collection for you, and an extra round up of dresses since I think they are the key to summertime maternity happiness.

summer-mat-capsuleMany things you can pull from your regular closet and make them work, or buy now and wear later (who says a jacket needs to actually close anyways?). Depending on your lifestyle, a basic versatile wardrobe such as this will make dressing the bump after a night of waking to pee 10 times so much easier.

– SUNHAT – something to cover your sensitive pregnant skin and that goes with every single outfit in your closet.
– POP FLATS – basically a sneaker, but more like an everyday shoe. Great for adding a pop of color to your outfit. (goes with dresses, skirts, shorts or pants)
– EVERYDAY SANDALS – a comfortable, shock absorbing sandal that also looks great is a must. (goes with dresses, skirts, shorts or pants)
– SNEAKERS – you’ll probably want to wear them everyday, and they go with everything so you can.
– DRESSY SANDALS – for work or a day/night out, it’s always a good idea to have a pair of shoes or sandals you can throw on to dress up any outfit. (goes with dresses, skirts, shorts or pants).
– LIGHT COVER-UP – a basic denim vest can add a layer to an outfit you wore last week, changing the whole look. Buy a non maternity vest in a size larger and wear it after baby comes. (goes with dresses and any of the tops).
– CARDIGAN – use an everyday cardigan to cover arms, keep you warm or add a layer to an outfit and change the look. (goes with dresses and any of the tops).
– FLOWY BLOUSE – comfortable like a tee but dresses things up a bit; great paired with casual/comfortable bottoms. (goes with any of the bottoms).
– MAXI SKIRT – looks great with any top and you feel like you never left the comfort of your PJS. (goes great with any of the tops).
– BASIC TANK TOPS – you will probably want to get a few of these in different colors and cuts, depending on what you like to cover up when you are with baby (I liked to cover my back). (goes with any of the bottoms and can be layered under dresses).
– DRESSED-UP TANK TOPS – pretty much a basic tank with a pretty detail, but that’s all you need to change things up a notch. (goes with any of the bottoms).
– LEGGINGS – the maternity holy grail of bottoms — you will probably need a couple pairs to get you through. If you get a pair that is thick enough you could pretty much wear them everyday and with everything. (goes great with any of the tops, as long as they are thick and not see thru).
– CASUAL TEE – for weekends, or just a casual day. (goes with any of the bottoms).
– STRIPED TEE – goes with everything, looks good layered under dresses, really a striped top is always a good idea. (goes with any of the bottoms, and layered under some dresses).
– MAXI DRESS – another style you might want to get a couple of, such an easy and comfortable style to wear when pregnant. (goes with any shoes, layered under any of the layers, or over any of the tops).
– SLIM JEANS – in the summer all you really need is one. (goes with any of the tops or shoes).
– SHORTS – perfect for when you can’t really sit like a lady anymore; oh you know what I’m talking about. (goes with any of the tops or shoes).
– DRESSY CASUAL DRESS – dress it up or down, great for everyday or for an event. (goes with any of the layers or shoes).
– COMFY DRESS – basically a long tee shirt, can be dressed up a bit and still feel as comfy or worn as is with a pair of sandals or sneakers. (goes with any of the layers or shoes).
– NOW AND LATER DRESS – doesn’t hurt that it’s a beautiful dress and probably flattering on every pregnant body. The top flips up for later when you are nursing a babe in your arms — or not and it’s still a comfy dress for later. (goes with any of the layers or shoes).
