I hope you’ve been enjoying our library posts as much as I’ve enjoyed putting them together… each time we visit, it’s like uncovering new treasures or visiting old friends as we select our books and I’m always bursting with excitement to share them with others!

Here are our favorites from our recent haul:

In-Our-Library-Bag

1) Lego Super Heroes: Friends and Foes: The super hero love is still going strong here and we really like the Lego Super Hero books and toys because they’re less violent. This book has an added bonus: (spoiler alert!) the girls save the day!

2) Blueberries for Sal: What a classic! I picked this up for Lil’ CB before we went blueberry picking and we loved saying “kerplink, kerplank, kerplunk” while dropping our blueberries in our buckets!

3) Wolfie the Bunny: What a silly book! The Bunny family adopts a baby wolf and while her parents dote on him, Dot warns them that he’ll eat them all up! There’s a fun twist at the end and the illustrations are gorgeous!

4) Ballet Cat and the Totally Secret Secret: Bob Shea is quickly becoming a major favorite of mine. His writing and pictures are hysterical and Lil’ CB, Mr. Cowboy, and I were all cracking up throughout this book! This was very similar to the Elephant and Piggie books and there is a great lesson about compromise and friendship. Also, again, hilarious!!

5) Inside this Book: This one is really cool because it’s actually four books in one, with each book smaller than the one before it. Plus, it encourages children to write, which you know I love!

6) Dinosaur vs. Mommy: Another hilarious book from Bob Shea. I think every mommy will have major connections with this book as Dinosaur “battles” Mommy with seemingly simple, everyday tasks!

7) Yoo-hoo, Ladybug!: This is such a fun, playful, and interactive book for little ones. Ladybug is hiding on each page…can you and your little one find her? It helps if you read, “Yoo-hoo, Ladybug! Where are you?” in a super sing-songy voice.

8) Yoko Finds Her Way: I love the Yoko books and Lil’ CB enjoys them, too. This one shows Yoko using signs to help her navigate her way around the airport and celebrates the fact that reading signs and environmental print is the first step to reading.

9) Click, Clack, Peep!: A special delivery has come to Farmer Brown’s farm and while all the animals adore the new fuzzy duckling, he just won’t go to sleep! Another one that parents will connect to, especially on nights when you’re dealing with your own bedtime shenanigans with your little ones!

10) I Hatched!: This little chick has just hatched and entered the world and she could not be more excited! Everything is new and fun and begging to be discovered, even her poop…

11) Doggone Dogs: A silly and crazy counting book featuring silly and crazy dogs!

12) Thank You, Octopus: This is one of those books where I read and think to myself, “What a random idea for a story!” and right afterwards think, “But it’s genius and it works!” The little boy in the story needs to get ready for bed, and Octopus tries to be helpful, but really just is not. For example, he draws the little boy a bath…but it’s a bath of egg salad. Or, Octopus tries to help with the boy’s pajamas, but puts them on the Statue of Liberty instead! See? SO random! But, seriously, also, genius!

13) The Great Gracie Chase: I adore Cynthia Rylant and her storytelling skills and this book is a lovely showcase of those skills. Inspired by her own dog, Gracie, this is a silly story about a dog, who longs only for peace and quiet and and ends up inadvertently causing a town wide dog chase!

14) Katie Loves The Kittens: Katie the dog has new kittens in her home and just wants to love on them so, so much, but of course, she scares them! Read as Katie learns to temper her crazy “AROOOOO!”s in order to cozy up to those sweet kittens.

15) One Word From Sophia: I looooved this book! Sophia really wants a giraffe, but has Four Big Problems in the way: Mom, Dad, Uncle Conrad…and Grand-mama. Read and laugh as she learns to negotiate and learns some pretty big synonyms along the way! Plus, I LOVE that it features a bi-racial family and a working momma without making the family’s makeup a central part of the story.

16) Giddy Up, Cowgirl: Well, of course, I had to bring home a book about a cowgirl! This one is another one that is very relate-able for parents — all Cowgirl wants is to be helpful, but, of course, every time she tries, she ends up being much less than helpful!
