Nature has not blessed me with beautiful eyebrows. Every morning, I would have to spend at least 5-10 extra minutes to make sure they are halfway decent. And if it was hot or my face got too oily, oh no– there went my eyebrows– sliding down my face. So what’s a girl to do?
There are a couple of options for women with sparse eyebrows. I recently read about this Asian eyebrow tattoo pen called Clio Tinted Tattoo Kill Brow. You use the pen side to define your brows at night after you clean your face and before applying any lotion. It gently “tattoos” your skin temporarily. The next morning, you use the mascara side to add more definition and shape. It’s supposed to last 3-7 days!
The second option is eyebrow tattooing. I’m sure when you think of eyebrow tattoos, images of eyebrows that look like someone used a sharpie might flash before your eyes. But gone are the days of the sharpie eyebrows or the grey/blue eyebrows your grandma or mom used to rock. These days there’s something called microblading or microstrokes which produces such a natural look that it doesn’t even look like a tattoo. The tattoo artist uses a very fine blade to deposit color onto your skin in strokes. Here are a few examples I found from Daria Chuprys. She’s a celebrity permanent makeup artist based in Los Angeles whose Instagram feed speaks for itself on the quality of work she provides.
The procedure costs anywhere from $300-$800 depending on the artist you choose. I personally went to one in Los Angeles about 4 years ago named Sherri based on a referral from a friend. At the time the procedure cost $300 which included a touch up after 2 weeks. The tattoo has lasted a long time on me because my skin keeps the pigment. I went just recently for another touch up and to make them a little bit thicker. I wish I had better before pictures, but here is a comparison picture from 2009 and now.
Here are how they look in natural light!
In the after picture, I’m not wearing anything on my eyebrows. It saves me so much time in the mornings especially now as a mom! Even if I don’t wear makeup, I don’t feel as “naked” since I have eyebrows on. Eyebrow tattooing isn’t for everyone. Even though they put numbing cream on that area, it still does hurt. But the end result is wonderful and it is so convenient.
Have you ever thought about permanent makeup? Would you ever do it?

My eyebrows taper at the arch from thin to practically non-existent. When I get them shaped and waxed I always giggle at how long it takes because the aesthetician doesn’t have much to work with. Who’s she fooling? I don’t pencil them in although that totally changes my look- hot mamacita! I like my unique brows just the way are- so no permanent make up for me.

Haha I just got my eyebrows done this morning and I love it! I have so little bodily hair everywhere including my brows, and after seeing so many people do it with good natural results, I finally took the plunge. It looks really natural since they add individual hairs! And it’s not permanent so not as big of a risk!

I feel like eyebrows are such a “thing” now! It used to be an afterthought. Now I grow mine much thicker which is a struggle for me as I am a tweezing addict. I think yours look great, and if it makes you more confident,, why not!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: LOL! I wish my eyebrows would look decent without penciling them in otherwise I would have just left them alone.
@Mrs. Bee: OHH! I can’t wait to see! That’s going to be such a life saver when you guys move!!
@kml636: Thank you! Yea, it just makes me feel like I’m not as “tired” since I have something on my face.
@Grace: The left side is more what my eyebrows look like. Both top pictures are overplucked though.

@Mrs. Schoolbus: yup i didn’t want to wear any makeup in the philippines since it’s hot and humid, so just having brows is going to make a big difference!

@Mrs. Bee: Plus that’s one less thing you have to buy/pack (eyebrow pencil/makeup).

@Mrs. Schoolbus: For what it’s worth, I think your eyebrows looked fine. It’s funny, the things about us that we focus on that others wouldn’t ever notice.

I have some aunties that got their eyebrows tattooed. It doesn’t look that bad and had me considering getting it done in the future. But for now, I still have time to pencil in my brows in the morning so I’ll hold off on it!

I had my eyebrows tattooed when I was 18. My mom bought me to the place she went to. My eyebrows was horrible. I think the last time I did a touchup was right before my wedding 5 years ago. The sound drives me crazy when the lady is working on me. It makes me cringe and uncomfortable. It’s worth it though…
