Nature has not blessed me with beautiful eyebrows. Every morning, I would have to spend at least 5-10 extra minutes to make sure they are halfway decent. And if it was hot or my face got too oily, oh no– there went my eyebrows– sliding down my face. So what’s a girl to do?

There are a couple of options for women with sparse eyebrows. I recently read about this Asian eyebrow tattoo pen called Clio Tinted Tattoo Kill Brow. You use the pen side to define your brows at night after you clean your face and before applying any lotion. It gently “tattoos” your skin temporarily. The next morning, you use the mascara side to add more definition and shape. It’s supposed to last 3-7 days!

The second option is eyebrow tattooing. I’m sure when you think of eyebrow tattoos, images of eyebrows that look like someone used a sharpie might flash before your eyes. But gone are the days of the sharpie eyebrows or the grey/blue eyebrows your grandma or mom used to rock. These days there’s something called microblading or microstrokes which produces such a natural look that it doesn’t even look like a tattoo. The tattoo artist uses a very fine blade to deposit color onto your skin in strokes. Here are a few examples I found from Daria Chuprys. She’s a celebrity permanent makeup artist based in Los Angeles whose Instagram feed speaks for itself on the quality of work she provides.

The procedure costs anywhere from $300-$800 depending on the artist you choose. I personally went to one in Los Angeles about 4 years ago named Sherri based on a referral from a friend. At the time the procedure cost $300 which included a touch up after 2 weeks. The tattoo has lasted a long time on me because my skin keeps the pigment. I went just recently for another touch up and to make them a little bit thicker. I wish I had better before pictures, but here is a comparison picture from 2009 and now.

In the after picture, I’m not wearing anything on my eyebrows. It saves me so much time in the mornings especially now as a mom! Even if I don’t wear makeup, I don’t feel as “naked” since I have eyebrows on. Eyebrow tattooing isn’t for everyone. Even though they put numbing cream on that area, it still does hurt. But the end result is wonderful and it is so convenient.

Have you ever thought about permanent makeup? Would you ever do it?
