When I found out I was having a little boy, I was excited to do something completely new for our nursery. I wanted my lil’ Tea Pot to have his own specially prepared space that he would hopefully enjoy for years to come.
After we moved Lil’ Tea Cup into her new big girl room (you can read about that here), I spent some time staring at the empty space and trying to figure out where I wanted to start. I also searched Pinterest and browsed though the aisles of local stores to try to get some inspiration. I realized something very quickly – boys’ rooms tend to be very themey. I, however, am not really a terribly themey person. I have no issue with them, but I like to change up the rooms in my house very often and themes do not work very well for that. So I then set about trying to create a “themeless” boy’s nursery.
My husband had really wanted a green room in our home, so I figured this would be a great room to try out a bold olive-ish shade because it had the white wainscoting to offset it a little. I then chose classic navy and then threw in some bold colours to add more spunk to the room.
The toy box was a side of the road find that I painted bright red and distressed to look antique. It holds all our baby gear and clothes for when Lil’ Tea Pot is older. Leaning against the wall is our tee pee from Ashley Gabby Designs on Etsy, and it will eventually be set up in place of our glider when it is no longer in use. The wire basket and the pillow were both clearance section finds from Homesense and the lamp is a hand me down for Lil’ Tea Pot’s nursery (see that here) with a new shade from Target. The helicopter is an antique toy from my husband’s collection.
On the left- is one of my favourite parts in the room, which is this print that hangs over the glider from GoodSouth. On the right – a close up of the mini gallery wall on the left side of the room. The S was mine from my old room growing up, the amazing dog print was actually something Mrs. Bee posted on Hellobee a while back by Hooray Today and the third frame holds one of my favourite greeting cards that we received after Lil’ Tea Pot was born.
On the other side of the room there is another mini gallery wall over the head of the crib. All frames are securely screwed into the wall for safety and can not be pulled off unless Lil’ Tea Pot has a crow bar in his possession. The blurred photo frame contains Lil’ Tea Pots hospital bracelets and the frame to the right was a Harry Potter print that was gifted to us. The silver deer head was from HomeSense. At the very bottom is one of my very favourite parts of the room. I saw the idea of hanging foosball men on the wall on Pinterest (of course) and knew I wanted to do it. I painted a simple wooden dowel black and then found the Foosball men. Super simple and in my opinion super cute. The photo on the right is the mobile that I made. On the inside hangs a high contrast mobile and then surrounding it are felt balls purchased from HandBEHDfelts that I strung onto twine. It all hangs from a wooden circle from a local craft store that I painted with black and white stripes.
Lastly, a few more detail shots of the room. Clockwise from the top left – Another antique toy from my husband’s collection that matched the red of the toy box perfectly. On the left another photo of the glider area. On the bottom left, some photo frames on our buffet turned change table, and lastly on the bottom right his “gentleman collection.” It is a simple dollar store frame where I removed the glass and then covered some foam with felt and added a few push pins. It’s like a bow holder for boys. Lastly, more of his jelly cat collection contained in another wire basket that I purchased from a garage sale.
…and because no post is complete without a little baby – here is the little guy, just up from his nap, peeking through his crib. Sorry bud you got a new room but your sleep sack is 100% hand me down haha!
In case anyone is paying close attention and noticed the complete reorganization of the nursery furniture in the course of these photos, the first photo is from just after Sullivan was born and was taken by our newborn photographer. Despite many attempts to capture a full shot of the room this week the light would simply not cooperate with me, so I decided to include him to show you a more full shot of the shape of the room.

Love it! We have the same “Gentleman” print in DS’s room, and I’m about to order a teepee from that same shop.
Our room is also “themeless” – we just used a grey, white, and aqua color palate.

I love how you made the high contrast mobile look nicer! We have the same one and while I love the function I hate the clunky plastic look, so I may have to copy you for the next LO!

Love the room! We’re also not themey people and went very minimal in our LOs room. It’s much more conducive to eventually redecorating!

this is so cute!! I love that there is no overall “theme” but it all works together wonderfully.
