I’m a list person. Lists are my jam. My favorite apps on my phone are the notes and reminder apps because they help me make lists. I make lists for everything. On Friday night, my hubby always likes to ask me, “So what’s on the list for this weekend?” HA! I’m so predictable. Anyway, here I am with another list for you guys. This time it’s a list of some of my favorite, light-hearted TV shows.

Some of these are shows I watched pre-baby, but I know they would totally work for post-baby as well. Right now, with a 7-1/2 month old, I lean towards shows that are more light-hearted. Also, if you plan on watching while your little one plays, it needs to be somewhat mindless and you can glance away for a moment and still be able to stay with the storyline. Some of these would be great to put on the background while you nurse as well – okay, in the early stages before they become so distractible!

Another good thing about most of these shows is they are shorter episodes running about 30-minutes. A few in the list are longer, but are really only 45-minutes or 1-hour max. They are all mostly available on Netflix or Hulu, too!

Without further ado, here’s a list of some of my favorite, “light” shows (not listed in any particular order).

Gilmore Girls – I realize I’m late to the game on this show as many people watched it years ago, but I love love loved it. I started it when Petit Macaron was a few weeks old. It became my nursing TV show. You just fall in love with the characters and the small town, Stars Hallow. It’s so warm and fuzzy. Also, did you know Melissa McCarthy is in it? I didn’t realize it until I started the first episode. Ha! I have only a few episodes left before it’s all over…tear. Luckily, I hear there is a revival of the show coming this fall. Hurray!

Parenthood – Apparently I like any show with Lauren Graham (well actually, I just looked on IMBD and some of it looks pretty bad, but she scores high points for this and Gilmore Girls). This show is heartwarming, and the family and events are so relatable – gosh sometimes maybe a bit too close to real life, but that’s okay it just makes it even more relatable. Mr. Macaron even watched this one with me – score! I saw this trivia on the IMDB description: “In almost every episode, someone makes pancakes or waffles.” And that right there is one of the reasons I love this show.

Modern Family – When I first saw an episode a while ago, I thought I didn’t like it. Then I decided to start watching it again at Mr. Macaron’s suggestion. Now, I am excited when I see there is a new episode to watch on Hulu. It takes everyday, real life things and makes a fun show out of it. I think I imagine myself like Claire, in a way. Just a feel good show that brings a chuckle.

New Girl – This one cracks me up. I seriously laugh during every episode. And this is another one Mr. Macaron watches, too. He played it off for the first season like he was uninterested. Then all of a sudden when discussing what to watch, he suggested New Girl. HA! I think Nick is my favorite character. Okay, all of them are funny and goofy, but not over-the-top goofy.

Fresh off the Boat – One thing that’s fun about this show is there are quite a few 90s references, which make for a good  laugh, and other good humor as well. It’s light and fun, so it’s easy to watch and doesn’t take much brain power.

Fixer Upper – I am a wee bit obsessed with Chip and Joanna especially right now since we just moved into a new home and I want to decorate all the rooms! Sadly, I just finished the last episode available on Netflix. They are a cute couple and have great taste. From what I’ve read about them, they are also great people and really invested in their local community. All the homes on the show are for families in the Waco, TX area. I would die if they could magically come to Tacoma and decorate my house; that would be so awesome!

The Great British Baking Show – What I love most about this show is that while it’s a competition, the contestants are so friendly and actually help each other. It’s so heartwarming and a nice change from all the cooking shows we have right now where the contestants heckle each other. Plus, it’s fun to see what they make and it inspires me to get into the kitchen. If only I could eat everything they make! And you’ll love Mary and Paul, the judges, especially Mary. My dream job would be one of the hosts since they get to watch and eat everything!

I’ll Have What Phil’s Having – Phil is the author of the show, Everybody Loves Raymond. He takes you on a culinary adventure through different European cities. He’s great at describing the food, and really makes my mouth water watching it. He has a great sense of humor and is just so enjoyable to watch. When my parents visited when Petit Macaron was 3 weeks old, I turned this on for them and they loved it.

How I Met your Mother – I watched this one a few years ago, but I still enjoy throwing on a repeat episode. It’s pretty darn similar to Friends, to be honest, but I liked Friends so there you have it. It’s basically the trials and tribulations of four best friends in their 30’s (more or less). You see them get jobs, married, have kids, and go through life’s journey all with a good laugh. I find it totally quotable, like Barney Stinson’s tagline, “legendary.” It also has you wondering throughout who the mom is!

About a Boy – This takes after the movie, About a Boy, with Hugh Grant. This is totally a light and airy show, but the kid is endearing and it’s fun to see the bachelor neighbor change as his relationship grows with the kid. I wouldn’t go around boasting this is the best show ever, but it makes me smile and was perfect to turn on as Petit Macaron crawled around and I ate breakfast.

Jim Gaffignan – This isn’t really a show, but there are a couple of performances you can watch. Jim is known mostly for his “hot pocket” act and it’s pretty hilarious. I like his bit on holidays and having kids. I’ve watched Beyond the Pale, in fact, I own it. Also, there is King Baby. I just saw a new one pop up on Netflix that I plan on watching as well called Obsessed. I hope it’s as good as the other two! If you need a laugh, watch yourself some Jim Gaffigan!

I’m always interested in what’s good on TV. It’s nice after I put the little guy down for bed, to spend a few moment just chilling on the couch. If you have something you love then please comment and share. I’d love to hear all about it!
