I am lazily making my way through this pregnancy. I don’t know if it is because this is my second child or because I am just so busy with work, school, preschool and life, but I haven’t had time to do much thinking about pregnancy! My friend had a baby three weeks ago and I just got to meet him yesterday. I can’t comprehend those tiny little baby toes. How was my child ever that small? And how will I be caring for a teeny footed newborn in just three short months? Second pregnancies are a mystery to me! Here are a few updates from around the Jellyfish house.

Complications? I am so pleased to report that at my second anatomy scan we found out that I no longer have placenta previa! In fact, the tech was fairly certain I never had it since it can often be misdiagnosed from an abdominal ultrasound, and I hadn’t had a vaginal one until that point. This is good news since it reduces the likelihood of certain complications, and it means I am no longer in the “automatic c-section” demographic. Also, I had to have two anatomy scans because during the first one they could not get good pictures of baby’s heart and spine. Since my first child was born with a possible spine anomaly, and my brother was born with a hole in his heart, the doctor wanted me to have a more detailed scan done to make sure there were no issues. The exam went well, and I am cleared to be back with my midwife instead of the MFM.

Prenatal care? Still on monthly appointments with my midwife group, so far, so good. Expecting to take the gestational diabetes text at my next visit.

Movements? All morning and all evening, and anytime I sit down. I don’t feel much movement during the day when I am active yet. I am guessing it is still too subtle.

Preparation? I put some cactus decals on the guest room/office/nursery wall, does that count? I also grabbed a secondhand changing table for $10, since we left our Ikea one when we moved in 2015. I’ve bought some used baby clothes as well! Not much, since I saved most of Ace’s clothes and they were all gender neutral styles. We decided for sure that we aren’t going to bother with a crib this time around, at least for the early months (obviously that can change if baby needs different arrangements!). Instead I broke out the pack n play and we have several other baby sleeping devices stored away. I also took out the infant car seat to make sure it is in good working order and plan to get it cleaned up soon.

Weight gain? I’m up six pounds so far. My belly feels giant though, and I am starting to get some aches and pains once in a while.

Feeling? Tired, but happy. My summer semester at school has ended, so it’s back to the grind with a full class schedule, in addition to my freelance work schedule. I fall into bed exhausted, but then spend several hours dealing with pregnancy induced insomnia. Luckily, during the day I feel pretty energetic, but once 5pm hits I am really ready to sleep. I’m a little worried because last time the insomnia didn’t hit until the very end. I really wish I could sleep now while I still have the chance!
