Watching my brain get better is quite simply the best. Every time I can do something new or remember something I couldn’t before is a vote towards health and proof of constant improvement. It’s exciting and hilarious because seemingly little things are a big deal to me. For example, remembering where I put the clean towels! Victory.
It’s really strange to have both a skewed concept of time going by and a constant reminder in my children that it is passing. It’s also a very weird age for me or time of life to be watching time slip through my fingers. My two kiddos are really little and I know this time is so precious with them, but I want so badly to keep getting better that I’m basically willing it to go faster. And let me tell you – it seems to be working. A win for my health but not too much for staying in the moment and appreciating the little things.
I am realizing that having our own space and our own agenda will make a huge difference. We bought a house! So we are most likely moving out of my parents’ house sooner rather than later and moving into our new home. My husband’s brother was the one to see it in person and we’ll move to the city they live in – the one we all went to college in. I think one thing about having a brain bleed and being so close to death is that for Mr. Gumdrop and I both it affirms that we need to hold life loosely and make good decisions quickly. When presented with a great option, move on it! It’s a good lesson for us because although we do make big moves sometimes, so often we are extremely cautious and conservative especially when it comes to finances. It feels so good to own something tangible though, and it’s a great house from what I’ve seen! And I’m thrilled about the location. It’s in a town I’m familiar with since it’s the one Mr. Gumdrop and I met in, it’s walking distance to everything and it’s a beautiful three bedroom.
I love the house but I truly love the location. I know the neighborhood and everything will have changed since I went to college there, but this place is still one house away from a huge park, blocks away from a cafe I used to love, and a block away from a grocery store. This means so much to me now that walkability is so valuable.
I am trying to focus on the present right now but a seemingly very standard future is so tantalizing too that I’m excited to be dreaming of just an typical home in an average sized town.
