When my son was born, we immediately got him a passport and started making plans to fly back to the US from Thailand where I had been stuck in the hospital until after his birth and my brain rupture embolization (big words, but basically they plug bad brain blood vessels with glue). So while we waited in sweaty Bangkok for the passport and details to fall into place, I (thankfully) moved out of the hospital and into the condo my family was all staying in during my long-awaited return to the world.
Since I wasn’t working and I was momming with help from grandma while I continued to recover, I did things that felt normal to me. One of those things was a loose form of Elimination Communication, which I did with my daughter, who daytime potty-trained on her own (I mean, kind of) shortly after she started walking, around 1 year old. My son is now a year and a month and a half old or so and has completely mastered the bear-crawl so sees no need for walking quite yet. I also think the balance aspect looks tricky to him!
So maybe he’ll start walking and peeing on his own yet too. We’ll see. We also lived in Thailand when my daughter was little so there wasn’t much need for pants, just a little undie during the day did the trick. It was doable for her to figure out eventually how to pull it down and sit to pee.
Right now, he pees on the potty most times I put him on there and if I get him on there in the morning right away, he usually poops. He definitely still uses diapers all day and because we were living in other people’s houses for the first 6 months of his life, we used bamboo disposable diapers, and still do since in Thailand we barely noticed a leaky diaper in the hot weather and a set of new (non-leaky) cloth diapers here is quite the investment! My hope is to be done with diapers when he can walk around rather than invest in big set of (likely new) non-leaky cloth diapers. I am trying to rationalize (for myself) the waste we end up creating, yes, but I also am pretty excited still that he’s on a somewhat potty-trained trajectory right now. Fingers crossed!

That picture is adorable! His perspective of the world is so different than the rest of us
– A thought about your cloth diapers…. I remember you posted a long time ago that you washed them in soap nuts. Soap nuts are not actually laundry detergent, and are probably causing your diapers to leak. They basically clog up the fibers, which causes repelling and leads to leaking.
I used Fluff Love to get my cloth diaper wash routine, and follow them on Facebook for any troubleshooting.
Here is their website: http://www.fluffloveuniversity.com/how-to-wash-cloth-diapers/
It sounds as if you will need to strip/bleach and then a new wash routine specific to your detergent and washer.
I recommend checking out their facebook group: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi9kPu04LzkAhXog-AKHXQID0YQFjAAegQIBBAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fflufflovecdsciencebulletinboard%2F&usg=AOvVaw0ni795GGR3pbSyZlFH1owD
I completely understand if you choose to stick with disposables, but I try to share the cloth diaper love everywhere
As for ‘expensive’ cloth diapers I also recommend using Flour Sack Towels. We changed out our pocket diaper inserts from the microfiber inserts that came with it. They are very cheap at Target/Amazon, and are 100% cotton. plus we’ll use them as rags when we are done with diapers!
Anyways, I hope I don’t sound pushy or judge-y.
Good luck
