My husband and I are two lovers of  thrifty and vintage decor (despite our modern crib). Not too long ago, we found this wonderful wooden rocking chair at a thrift store for $3.00. It was hard to pass up! For months the rocking chair sat in our garage, waiting to be re-found. We recovered the seat with a vintage knit blanket seen above that we also found at the same thrift store. We chose the vintage blanket because it’s not very often you see one being used as a seat cover. Now the chair has finally made its way back into our home and into the nursery!

Taking old and forgotten pieces of furniture and repurposing them for the home is one of my favorite things to do, and this is such an easy DIY project for anyone. If you ever see a unique chair that has a hideous seat, don’t fret!  It’s so easy to remove the icky material and replace it with something new and fresh!

Replace the base with firm foam, cover the seat with new material and staple it to the bottom of the seat so it doesn’t budge. It’s super easy! This is almost exactly what we did with the chair, however, it was missing the seat entirely. It was a little more work, but still pretty straightforward. My handy husband just cut a rectangle out of plywood.

I am also a big believer in repainting furniture. We have repainted many things for our home, but this time we decided to keep the original wood. It had character and character is a good thing sometimes! It helps the room feel more cozy and welcoming. I am happy with the end product and can’t wait to have many special moments on our new and improved rocking chair!
