Before Miss H was born, I didn’t do a lot of research about baby soap. I knew that California Baby was generally considered to be a good brand so I bought a bottle of it. And while we liked it, at about $14.00 for 8.5 ounces, it felt a little bit pricey.
After that ran out, we picked up some Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Shampoo & Wash. A bit of a better deal at around $10 for 12 ounces, we liked it enough until we realized that Miss H was much more upset about getting this shampoo in her eyes. We still used it up – no need to be wasteful – but were on the hunt for something new.
In one of our monthly subscription boxes we received a sample of Babytime by Episencial’s Playful Wash. It has a fresh tangerine scent and doesn’t bother Miss H’s eyes. We were sold! Oh, and did I mention that it gets really sudsy? An added bonus. When the sample ran out we went ahead and bought a big bottle of it.

At about $20 for 20.6 ounces, this is a slightly more affordable option over the other two washes we’ve bought (California Baby runs around $25 for 19 ounces). We also love the big pump bottle (which I know many other brands offer in the larger sizes as well) because it is so much easier to use and we waste far less of the product because we’re not pouring big globs of it into our hands!
While not the cheapest baby soap on the market, this one is a definite winner for us as it doesn’t irritate Miss H’s eyes, leaves her with a fresh citrusy scent, and is more affordable than some of the competition of the more upscale brands.

Diapers.com has the California Baby soap for $23. We’re still working through our first 19 ounce bottle which has been in use since May of last year. Once I figured out it’s supposed to be low foaming, we realized we didn’t need to use as much, which has made it last so long.

@locavore_mama: One of the reviews on Amazon said her son has eczema & it worked well for them.
I’d love to try this if we didn’t have 5 million bottles of baby soap from our shower to chug through! I’m actually using LO’s California Baby soap myself right now!
