The past two years, I have made photo cards using a cute picture of Liam to send as Valentines to friends and family. It’s something fun I like to do and the people I send them to seem to like receiving them. However, this year, Liam is in preschool and he and his classmates will be exchanging Valentines as part of their class party. I started perusing Pinterest for ideas and realized that I wanted him to help make the Valentines instead of me just doing all the work. Here are some of my favorite ideas for Valentines that toddlers and preschoolers can help make.
Like all of the examples I found, these require some help from an adult to complete, but I like how cute and simple these thumbprint Valentines are.
Turning a toilet paper roll into a heart stamp is easy and economical. These would be great for toddlers to do and an adult can write in a message.
An adult can trace a child’s hand and cut it out, then glue it on to a larger piece of card stock, bending the two middle fingers down. I love that this also teaches the kids sign language!
These heart shaped monsters are super cute. We are taking inspiration from this one for Liam’s Valentines this year.
This is our other inspiration for Liam’s Valentines. I already printed out her free printable on white card stock, so I’m going to cut a sponge into the shape of a heart and let Liam dip it in paint and on each card. Then he can glue the googly eyes on and I’ll draw the arms and legs.
Another cute monster Valentine using lots of heart shapes that kids can glue where they’d like.
It might be hard to make a lot of cards with these hand prints on them, but I think this would be cute if you were just sending them to a few relatives.
I think these yarn heart valentines are such a cute idea and something that preschoolers or older kids could definitely help with. A cute saying would be the finishing touch! And these heart people can be glued to a larger card or a message can be written right on the back. I think kids would have fun using lots of different materials to create these.
I think kids would have a lot of fun with these secret messages. An adult can write the message and a toddler can paint over it to reveal it OR you could write messages on all the white cards and give them with a set of watercolors to each kid, with a note about painting over them to reveal the secret.

These hearts on the left are shown as thank you notes, but I think they would make great Valentines, too! The saying is cute and they would be simple for toddlers to help by scribbling with crayons. And depending on your child’s cutting ability, he or she could help cut out the heart shapes and glue them together to make this cute elephant Valentine.

This is another one that may be hard to make a bunch of, but I love little toes!

This was intended to be a Mother’s Day card, but if you just use what they have on the last page, writing “I love you” above the heart, it would work well for a Valentine, too.

We have done the heart prints with a paper towel tube (worked well), handprints making a heart (worked well), and thumbprints (really hard to get her to place her thumbs properly, so we gave up). Might have to try a few more of these in the coming weeks!
