There isn’t much we need to buy for this new one coming. All my kids will be within 5 years of each other, so most things are still working or in good condition. And since I have a boy and a girl, I’m set for a lot of clothing and things like blankets as well. It’s kind of nice to have one less thing to worry about before baby comes. Before Juliet was born we did have to buy a few things including a double stroller and a new swing, as our hand-me-down broke. This time I think we are set for the most part, but I do have some little things I want to get because even though this is our 3rd baby, it’s still a new person in our lives who deserves a few things just for them as well. Here is my list for new things for this new baby:

Things-for-a-3rd-Baby

1) Scout/Violet – We got Drake a Scout dog to keep him company in bed when we transitioned him out of our room to his own crib. We liked that Scout had programmable bed time music and soon it became part of our nightly routine. Once Drake heard us press the night time music, he would lay down on his own. Seeing how well it worked for Drake we bought Violet for Juliet and do the same thing with her now. Now as we wait for the last little one to come, the big question is will it be another Scout or Violet?

2-3) Bottles & Pacifiers – This is more for sanitary reasons than anything else, but I always read that you should get new nipples and pacifiers for each baby. I’ll probably still use the same bottles, but I do want to get new nipple heads. Juliet still uses bottles and pacifiers and while Mr Chocolate and I have talked about getting her off both before the baby comes, I’m not sure if it’ll happen. Drake was off both before 2 so there is hope, especially since Juliet only uses the pacifier to sleep mostly. If for some reason she is still using pacifiers when the baby comes, I might have to switch brands or buy different colors so we can distinguish between the two sets.

4-6) Lamb – Each of my kids have animals I associate with them. Drake was a team green baby so I decorated his nursery in giraffes since they are my favorite animal, and it worked well with the yellow nursery walls. Once he was born and we named him Drake I also got him lots of dragon things since that’s his namesake. When I found I was pregnant with a little girl, I instantly thought about bunnies. Juliet also has a huge love of elephants now so we also get her a lot of those toys too. With this one I thought of sheep because this happens to be the year of the sheep according to the Chinese zodiac, and simply because I love them. There is something so sweet and innocent about little lambs and I think it’s the perfect complement to a new baby. Once we know the sex, this one might also get a secondary animal like their siblings did. I have had this sheep blanket since I registered for it when I was pregnant with Drake. I used to keep it draped over the rocking chairs and it moved from Drake’s room to Juliet’s after she was born. Drake never noticed it but Juliet has recently really started to like it and has even taken it to bed with her, so I’m looking for a secondary sheep. I like this Lamb Mat not only for the cuteness factor, but also for weekly photos since baby can lay on it.

7) Nursery – I love the idea of designing nurseries/bedrooms, but sadly my vision and my reality with time, energy, and money aren’t always on the same wave length. I’m still working on Drake and Juliet’s bedrooms and hope to be done before they are both 10 at the rate I’m going. Still it’s nice to dream and I have ideas already for this one’s room. Since baby is going to stay in our room for a while we don’t plan on working on the room until after the baby is born and we know the sex. If it’s a girl I know I want to do a room based off these sheets from The Land of Nod. Juliet’s room is light purple and white and I plan on adding silver in eventually. This will be a completely different palette to give them each their own distinct room. I love the swans and would do pinks and golds I think for this room. Drake’s room is blue and I’m working on a Peter Pan theme of some sort for him. If this one is a boy, I might do green and a more woodland fox theme instead.

8) Swaddle/Blanket – I am big fan of Aden & Anais swaddles. I fell in love with them when I had Drake and Mr Chocolate, the resident swaddler in our house, soon found out he preferred them for swaddling over all the other swaddling blankets. Truth be told we have a good size collection of Aden & Anais swaddles between both Drake and Juliet. For this baby I’m thinking about getting a Dream Blanket and want to see if they truly are as special as the swaddles. I probably will hold off on this one since babies can’t have blankets before one.

That’s all I have right now, which simply means I have been lucky enough to have most of my big baby needs covered. But is there anything you think my last baby could use that I forgot?
