Over the past couple of years I’ve really streamlined my wardrobe and rarely buy new clothes. But I have become somewhat of a beauty junkie now that I’m getting older and want to take better care of my skin. I also prefer playing around with my makeup to change my look rather than buying new clothes — a bold lip can have such a big impact on your look, and it’s so easy!

New York has cold weather at least 6 months out of the year, which made my skin very dry. But now that I’m moving to a tropical climate, the beauty products I use will have to change to account for my oilier skin and need for sweat-proof makeup. These are the products I’m taking with me — some new additions to my skincare regimen, as well as some tried and true products.

Tropical-Climate-Beauty-Products

1) Colorscience Loosed Mineral Sunblock – I love EltaMD sunblock and have been using it for years because it absorbs so easily. Shiseido is also nice, but pricier. Mrs. High Heels recommended Biore which looks like a great affordable alternative, but it takes a long time to ship from Japan via Amazon (I just received my bottle and won’t be able to place a second order before we leave). A great sunblock is absolutely essential in tropical weather so I’ll still use my EltaMD every day, but a mineral sunblock will be great to use for touch-ups when I’m wearing makeup.

2) Caudalie Skincare line – Caudalie’s skincare line is light and natural and I love all their products, so I thought it would be perfect for the hot, humid weather. Korean skincare products introduced me to the concept of layering products, and I still believe in a multi-step skincare process. But I like to try new lines and I’m not loyal to any one brand. I’m taking Caudalie’s foaming face wash, beauty elixir & radiance serum, and their resveratrol anti-aging day and night lotions and eye cream.

3) Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant – When I was younger I was very lazy about skincare, but I always exfoliated my face in the shower. I also love, love, love microdermabrasion and highly recommend it (I got a few sessions before my wedding). This fabulous product combines the effects of exfoliating with microdermabrasion.

4) Dr. Brandt Oxygen Flash Facial Recovery Mask –  I never get around to doing masks, although sheet masks have made it super easy and I’ll do those once in a blue moon. But I love this oxygen mask because it is so easy and so cool. Just apply it to your face and you can see the oxygenated bubbles working! Then just rinse with water.

5) L’Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara – I throw my mascara away every 3 months so I don’t like to spend a lot on it. L’Oreal Voluminous has been my favorite forever and every time I try a new drugstore mascara, I always come back to this one.

6) Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner – This won’t budge in the humid weather. I used Stila’s Waterproof Eyeliner for years, but prefer Kat Von D’s. I recently found out that this is Sephora’s #1 bestselling eyeliner!

7) Anastasia Brow Wiz – The brow queen has made the perfect pencil. This is the only brow product I need other than tweezers and brow scissors.

8) Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette – This is the only eyeshadow I’m taking with me. You can do so many different looks with just one palette.

9) Glam Glow exfoliating lip scrub & treatment – I have the most chapped lips in the world, and am always in search of the best product. I still love Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip mask, but the latest tool in my battle against chapped lips is this Glam Glow Lip Scrub and treatment.

10) Stila Convertible Color in Lillium – I wanted an easy cream blush that I could just apply with my fingers and give me that natural sun-kissed glow.

11) Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation – This is a super light anti-aging foundation with SPF 30. Though I love my cushion compact, I’m undoubtedly going to get much tanner in the Philippines and need something that I’ll be able to adjust color-wise.

12) Perricone MD Bronzer – I can add increasing amounts of this bronzer to the foundation so that I can get a perfect match to my tan.

13) Perricone No Highlighter Highlighter – I’m kind of addicted to highlighters. I still love my Jouer Highlighter (tip of nose, inner eye corners) and my Hourglass Palette (forehead, cheeks, nose bridge), but I wanted something a little lighter and in liquid form for the humid weather. Another one I really want to try is Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector.

14) Clarisonic – Back to my love of exfoliation, I really want to try to keep my skin clean in the Philippines because I will inevitably sweat a lot… every day. This Clarisonic has attachments for your face and body so I can use it on my face and back!

Most days I won’t wear makeup there, and my favorite bright, bold lipsticks will seem out of place, so I’m going to give most of my make-up to my friends before I leave. I am in the market for a couple of lip stains if you have any recommendations!
