With less than two weeks ’til Christmas, perhaps you’re still looking for some gifts or could use some extra Christmas-y stories to share with your little ones. We have a basket of Christmas books that we store with our Christmas decorations, and we love pulling them out at the start of the season and reading them. We also love going to the library and checking out new to us Christmas books and reading Christmas stories every night in December. Here are some of our favorites that we’d love to share with you! Please note that we do focus on the birth of Jesus in our home, but we also do Santa, so you’ll see a mix of both on this list.

Countdown to Christmas: This is a great book to read every night beginning on December 1. Each day’s pages include a short devotional, a prayer and an activity.

The Polar Express: An absolute classic that has now become even more popular in house after Lil’ CB watched the movie.

The Christmas Story: I love this simple retelling of the story of Jesus’ birth. It’s easy to understand for even the youngest listeners.

Christmas for 10: I’ve shared this book here before; I love this sweet simple counting story of a family preparing for Christmas.

The Gift of Nothing: This isn’t necessarily a Christmas book, but it does take place in the winter and it focuses on the idea of finding a loved one the perfect gift, only to discover that the perfect gift isn’t something you can buy in a store. So very sweet and heartwarming.

The Story of Christmas: This is written by the same author as The Christmas Story. It’s very similar and a great companion, especially since the first and last pages highlight how the story of Jesus’ birth leads to our Christmas celebrations.

Christmas Lights: One of Lil’ CB’s and my favorite things to do during the holiday season is driving around and looking at Christmas lights. This book follows one family as they do the same — simple and easy to connect to.

Mouse’s First Christmas: I love how this story is written as a little guessing game. Your little ones will enjoy helping Mouse discover the joys of Christmas!

Llama Llama Holiday Drama: Listen, I love Christmastime, but sometimes it can be a little much, amIright? I love the Llama Llama series and this one might be my favorite one — an easy-to-follow story that will help littles understand that when the holiday season seems a little overwhelming, it’s good to slow down and remember what’s really important.

Olive, the Other Reindeer: I just love this super silly and cute book! Olive, the dog, hears “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” on the radio and mistakenly hears, “Olive, the other reindeer” and decides that even though she thought she was a dog, she must be a reindeer! Follow her as she journeys to the North Pole and joins Santa’s team!

Bear Stays Up For Christmas: I adore the stories in this series and Karma Wilson does not disappoint in this Christmas story. As usual, the story focuses on friendship — read as Bear’s dear friends try to keep him awake for Christmas (he just wants to take his long winter’s nap!) and how Bear (and a special guest star!) ends up surprising his friends instead.

The Night Before Christmas: Have you seen Robert Sabuda’s genius work? His pop-up illustrations are breathtakingly beautiful and his take on this classic poem is just magical! Beware, you are going to have set some rules for those little hands around this book!
