Being a busy mom means I’m constantly looking for ways to be more efficient with my time. Whether by figuring out new ways to multitask or streamlining steps in my daily routine, it’s always great when I can save a couple minutes here and there. The bottom line is that my days of kicking back on the couch over a lazy weekend are a thing of the past. That’s why I was thrilled to discover Stitch Fix, an online personal styling service and the easiest way to add fun and unique pieces to your wardrobe from the comfort of your home!
You start by filling out a style profile. This is the place to decide how you want Stitch Fix to fit into your life and closet. For me my go to clothing palette has always been white, black and shades of gray, so I took advantage of some of the more bold/patterned options. I’m usually not looking for the essentials, but rather a few unique pieces that I could mix into my wardrobe. Stitch Fix will send you 5 items of clothing, accessories or shoes (you can specify what you want and your price range). You pay a $20 styling fee, which will be applied as credit toward anything you keep from your shipment, and if you buy all 5 items you will get 25% off the entire purchase. Once you receive your shipment, you can try on everything in the comfort of your home, decide what you want to keep and mail the rest back in a pre-paid envelope. You then rate each item based on size, style and price so that your stylist can learn your likes and dislikes and better tailor the items in your next fix.
To get the most out of your Stitch Fix experience, the company encourages you to link a Pinterest board to your account so your stylist can get a sense for your fashion inspiration. I have carefully cleaned and curated my Pinterest board to reflect my style, and since then my Stitch Fix boxes have been much more aligned with my taste.
With an energetic and (extremely!) messy toddler at home, I typically ask my stylist to send something that is “mom-friendly” but not “mom-ish”—can be washed easily (i.e., no dry cleaning!), isn’t too low cut or short (I’m constantly bending down to pick things up) but still makes me feel attractive. I’ve gotten several really fun pieces that I love! And I’m not embarrassed to admit that I get a little twinkle of excitement when I see that Stitch Fix box at my door. Here are a few of my favorite items I’ve received:
Stitch Fix is not always the most budget friendly option for buying clothes, but it’s a great way to discover new trends and styles that you would normally overlook. The company recently expanded to include shoes, which I can’t wait to try in my next shipment. Have you tried Stitch Fix yet?
Are there any subscription boxes you recommend?

I tried the maternity box and the clothes were just meh and really expensive. I did keep one top though.

I LOVE that gray and black coat. So cute!

@T.H.O.U.: I had the same experience with my maternity box. The pieces were way too expensive for clothes I’ll only wear for a few more months. If this were my first pregnancy maybe I’d be more inclined to but $120 jeans.

@OldpuebloJenn: Yes and some just really wasn’t great quality either.

After about 2 years of my sister telling me I should try it, I actually just signed up for Stitch Fix this past weekend and will get my first box next week. Can’t wait!

@T.H.O.U.: The boxes get better and more tailored to your taste as you continue to give feedback to your stylist after each shipment. But I agree that the prices can be a little high, especially for something like maternity clothes that you only plan to wear for a few months.

@ValentineMommy: thanks! It’s an item that I would have walked past in the store but ended up loving it when it was sent to me.

Glad you’re enjoying stitch fix. I was really excited about the process, and getting new clothes to try on at home that someone styled for me! But I was so disappointed with it. I received 3 fixes over 3 months and I only ended up keeping one cardigan. I found the clothes to be very low quality, cheap thin fabrics, poorly constructed, cheap zippers that stuck. Every time I tried on the outfits I got excited because my first though we be “oh this is cute and I would have never picked it for myself” but the quality was so poor and the prices were way to high for such cheap fashion. I was also annoyed that I asked for clothes I could wash in my washer machine (no dry clean, no hand wash) and they told me that stylists couldn’t do that, every top I received was hand wash only.
All that aside it looks like you got some cute pieces, I really like that coat!

@Mrs. Ice Cream: It wasn’t so much that the styles were off (they sent what I asked for) but a lot of the clothes I didn’t feel like were worth the cost. A thin cardigan for $60 that I could tell would be stretched out or have to be hand washed? A thin cotton t-shirt top that is super cute but was $48 that probably wont last past 1 pregnancy/season before it looks worn. I dont mind splurging for some of those prices if its a key wardobe piece that will last for multiple seasons but I just didn’t feel like the quality was there on most of my items.

@Mrs. Ice Cream: cute outfits! It must be so fun to get a box and dig into what is inside.
@T.H.O.U.: I’ve heard mixed things about the quality of clothes as well. I’m still tempted to try it b/c I absolutely hate shopping and am not so good at putting things together. Then again, I’m pretty frugal with clothing, so it might be too hard to cough up the bucks for something that is overpriced!

@hotpink: I agree that sometimes the prices are a little high, that’s why I usually only keep 1 item from a shipment. But I’m surprised by all the comments about low quality pieces because that hasn’t been my experience. Stitch Fix has amazing customer service, if you contact them about quality issues they will most likely work with you to send you something else.
If there are any subscription boxes you’ve tried and loved, let me know. I’m a sucker for them!

I tried a couple of shipments from Stitch Fix a few years ago. I kept a few ok pieces, but never felt like my stylist “got” me. The brands aren’t great quality either.
I did love getting a box of goodies! That was exciting, but I won’t do it again.

@Mrs. Ice Cream: my friend LOVES Birchbox. You can also let them know the types of products you’re interested in trying. She’s found some of her favorite products through them and said their sample sizes are generous.

@Happygal: I LOVE birchbox too! I virtually know nothing about beauty products, so it has been a great way to discover brands.
