There are plenty of fashion trends that I have skipped out on (i.e., culottes, joggers, off the shoulder) and others that took me a long time to jump on (pointy-toed shoes, skinny jeans). Lately I’ve started loving high waisted jeans, floral prints and jumpsuits even though I’d sworn them off a while back. Here’s a few styles that I’m embracing this Spring.
1. High-waisted pants. I’m pretty excited about the 70s resurgence of high waisted flared pants. It’s a style that is slimming on almost any silhouette. For a casual look, I usual opt for a tucked in shirt. I’m loving the Flea Market Flare jeans from Madewell. When paired with a 1.5″ heel they are the perfect length (I’m 5’7″).
2. Cross-body bag. My sister in law gave me this one for Christmas and I love it. It forced me to pare back the junk I normally accumulate in my big tote bags and I love the soft brown leather and subtle embossed monogram.
3. Rayban Wayfarer Sunglasses – Wayfarers look good on just about any face and offer an almost instant cool factor. With a round face I have a hard time finding shades that suit me, so these are my go-to frames. I love this tiffany blue version for a fun weekend look.
4. Sperry Canvas Shoes – I pretty much live in slip on shoes for their ease and comfort. I recently bought these canvas sneakers and have been wearing them almost every day. They are comfortable and work with just about everything I own.
6. White Tee – A white t-shirt is more of a classic staple than a trend, but I love rocking a plain white t-shirt with jeans. But to get that effortless look, you need to find the perfect t-shirt fit (which is surprisingly hard to do!). I have tried my fair share of white tees and these are a few of my favorites: James Perse , J.crew , and Forever 21. I stumbled upon the Forever 21 option recently and I was surprised how much I love it. It’s soft, not too short and only $5.90!
7. Jumpsuit – I’d been admiring this look for a while but hadn’t been bold enough to try it until recently. If I’m being honest, the main hold out was the idea of getting half undressed every time I needed to go to the bathroom. But now that I’ve gotten past that, I enjoy the simplicity of picking a one piece item to wear in the mornings. I love this casual one and this slightly more dressy option. I’ve found that when shopping for jumpsuits, look for a pair that’s slim, but not tapered, in the legs because it’ll look more modern and feminine.
What trends have you been loving this year?

I agree with all the jumpsuit/romper stuff. They are cute, but I just really don’t like getting half undressed to go to the bathroom!

I am on the hunt for a good pair of flare/bell bottoms!

@Mamaof2: Somehow the jumpsuit is an intimidating piece of clothing! I’m still not sure if I’m pulling the look off, but they are surprisingly comfortable. : )

I have a pair of joe’s flare jeans I need to pull out of my closet. The only problem is I debate about having them hemmed for flats since I rarely wear taller shoes running after kids all day… I’m also not sure if they would look very good-what do you think?

I’m not sure if it’s just a sign of aging, but I have a much harder time getting into trends.
I never got into the skinny jeans thing. The high-waisted thing doesn’t seem like much of a stretch for me because I never got out of the flares. Haha.
I want to like the cross-body bag because it seems so much more functional, but so far, I just can’t get into it.
I can’t get into the jumpsuit thing — can’t get over the undressing thing to just go pee.
What do you think about gladiator shoes? I didn’t get into them last year, but I’m starting to consider them this year. I hope they aren’t already out of fashion.

@kellyrae: I’m always hesitant to hem expensive jeans because I don’t want to ruin them. That’s why I usually shorten them in a way that you don’t have to cut them (http://www.thriftyfun.com/Hemming-Jeans-Like-a-Pro.html), that way if you aren’t happy with the way they look you can easily unstitch them. For the record, I’ve hemmed and unhemmed my jeans dozens of times! : )

@Viola: I can relate to your aging comment because that is how I feel when I see certain trends like crop tops! As for the cross-body bag, it has been great for my back to pare down the contents in my purse and because it distributes the weight better.
As for gladiator shoes, I haven’t jumped on that trend but I think they are really cute. The main reason is that I work in a lab and can’t wear open toed shoes. If you try them let me know if you find them comfortable!

I haven’t seen too many of these trends in real
life yet but I love all of them.

@Mrs. Ice Cream: Too bad I’m not savvy with a sewing machine or anything like that. I don’t mind altering expensive denim but I just want to commit to whatever style before I do it. Flats and flares might be a bit of a stretch.
