Yeah, that’s a bad title/joke. It’s not even punny! Ha!
Ok, so. Hey there! How’s your spring going? Here in the DC area, we’re warming up, thankfully, and despite it being rainy and gloomy today, I’m so grateful there are warmer days ahead. Weekends inside with a nearly-five-year-old are no joke; especially with a six-month-old baby ’round these parts!
Yeah! We had a baby! We were on the fence for so long about whether we’d have another kid, and I can safely say that thing all second-time parents do: we’re so glad we did and we can hardly imagine life without our newest love, Tom.
I’m loving life as a mama-of-two, though it’s definitely been a fun adjustment. Will is taking to life as a big brother swimmingly (though, funnily enough, swim lessons are QUITE the battle around here), and I’ve been able to transition back to working outside the home pretty well. Ah, the return of pumping. I did not miss you, dear plastic flanges yanking my nipples daily, no, I did not.
Life can be summed up in a few ways:
- Boys! I’m surrounded by them, and it’s (mostly) lovely.
- Kindergarten on the horizon. What?! We have Orientation next week and I’m so excited. William is… on the fence.
- The looming reality of a crawling baby. Thomas will be seven months old very soon, and I know our days of limited baby mobility (and the ease of life that brings) are coming to a close soon. Hooray! And also, dang it.
- Finding my mama self again. I’m in therapy proactively this go ’round and I’m loving it. Pretty sure the spouse is too – all those lovely homework conversations my therapists sets are my introverted-partner’s
dreamnightmare.
So, how are you all? What have you been up to in 2019, so far?

So glad to hear from you and congratulations! I’m in the NE as well and SOOOO happy it’s finally getting warm. I have 2 winter babies so I know the horror of 2 kids + winter lol! And my oldest is going to K also this year. You should join us on the entering K thread!!

Congrats! Good to hear from you. I’m also glad for spring to be coming, it has been a long winter with two kids at home. Our 7 month old is in the verge of moving/crawling which will make things interesting, and with a bigger age gap we are not completely baby proofed anymore!

I love that you’re sharing about therapy in such a positive light. I think in the realm of self-care it’s definitely an important thing! Also I don’t remember the study, but I’ve heard five years between children is an ideal gap in terms of helping your children reach their fullest potential :).

@graceandjoy: Oh I will! Thank you for pointing me to it!
@Mrs. Snowflake: that it is! oof!
@ALV91711: that’s us too! I’m looking around the house like, wait, what do we need to do? SO MANY outlets…haha!
@Jess: good to know – thank you for sharing! I’m trying really hard to be open about therapy because I’m seeing so much how having an impartial person to listen to me and my processing of the world is beneficial. Everyone should be in therapy, honestly!

Welcome back!! I’d love to hear more about how it is with the larger than “normal” age gap! We are trying to decide if we want another and I feel like I’m 50/50!!
