I’m actually new to Facebook parenting groups, because I always had Hellobee! But in the past year, I’ve joined three parenting groups that have provided a lot of inspiration for me.

1) We are Worldschoolers – The majority of families in this Facebook group are traveling around the world with their children, or planning to do so. They may be homeschooling, they may be unschooling, but travel is a key component of providing their children’s education through “experiential learning and cultural exchange.” Having lived abroad for 4 years has really changed me, and I want to continue to travel with my kids as much as possible; that’s much more difficult to do living in the United States, which is far and expensive from areas like Asia and Europe where it’s much easier to travel through many countries. I don’t know where we will eventually end up, but I am open to many destinations. What I like about the Worldschoolers Facebook group is I learn so much about areas in the world that are interesting and family and homeschool friendly. Many worldschoolers connect through this group to meet or host in destinations around the world. They also share tons of travel tips and advice, financial tips on how to make and save money while traveling, and much more. It keeps my wanderlust alive!

2) Wildschooling – This is a group for families who celebrate active, nature-based education for children. We currently live in one of the most beautiful and biodiverse places in the entire world here in the Philippines. I’ve witnessed the amazing power of nature with my own children – my daughter who was a sensory seeker with developmental delays due to being a preemie, and my son who struggles with ADHD. Nature helped both of them change, learn, grow, respect, expand and so much more. This wildschooling group shares lots of ideas of things to do with kids in nature, and celebrates how joyful children are in nature. As a city girl who has lived in some of the biggest cities in the US, I truly appreciate having access such close access to beaches, mountains, forest. I believe nature helps heal no matter what is ailing us.

3) Korean Mommies – My friend added me to this group and I’ve been enjoying it since I joined. It’s specifically for moms of Korean descent, moms married to spouses of Korean descent, moms that have adopted Korean children, etc. Moms can *sometimes* be very opinionated and assertive about their opinions on parenting, but I’ve found nothing but support in this group. Moms share typical problems with parenting, spouses, in-laws, sometimes needing a perspective dealing with Korean culture. But we also discuss things that are unique to Korean culture like educational books, traditions, fun stuff like Korean dramas, etc. I want to instill a strong sense of Charlie and Olive’s Korean heritage, so I value this group not only for the kind and supportive moms, but also for an exchange of ideas on how to keep the Korean culture alive in our kids being raised as second or third generation Korean-Americans.
