We’re launching a new feature where we write about some of our favorite children’s books! Most children love reading with their parents, and Charlie is no exception. He seems to love books more and more as he gets older. Lately books are even his toys of choice!
First up is Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdny, which we received for free through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Charlie has never loved a book so instantly as he’s loved this one. He’s asked us to read “Mama Grandma Mama” as he calls it every single day since we received it. I think he loves the rhyming in the book, and he loves the story of the mama, baby and little doll llama.
Llama Llama Red Pajama tells the story of a baby llama that gets scared of the dark after his mama tucks him in for the night.
He calls out for her and when she doesn’t come right away because she’s busy downstairs, he becomes frantic. But she quickly appears and reassures her baby llama that she is always near even if he can’t see her.
The illustrations in this book are really great. Charlie points out that mama is saying bye bye and that the baby is crying every time we read the book. The rhyming also makes it fun to read for adults. We’re definitely going to be adding more books in the llama series to our library!

LO loves this one too. He actually loves the entire Llama series. He also loves and adores A Very Cranky Bear. It is also rhyming and super cute. He had it memorized when he was a little older than 2. I have a video where it looks like he’s reading it, even though he just heard it so much it stuck!

the kids are the daycare i work at love this book, too. We make screaming noises when we read this book and so the kids allllll scream, “Mamaaaaaaaaaaa” with us

What a cute book and nice pictures too! I just ordered Christina Katerina and the Box. It was one of the few books with a girl starring as a main character, back in the day. I think it’s above baby level but tonight my daughter was playing ‘house’ with her carseat box after months of pushing it around. It brought back great memories of when I read the book as a kid and was inspired to use a box in multiple ways. I wonder if it’s as good as I remember it. The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Dear Zoo are her favorites right now.

DS LOVES Can’t You Sleep Little Bear? Its about a little bear that is scared of the dark
He also loves Chica Chica Boom Boom, where the ABC’s race to the top of the coconut tree! I think he likes how “fun” it is!

What a cute book. We get a TON of books from my husband’s nieces (who are now 9 and 12) when they are ready to give them up. They’re girls so take care of their books so most of them are in great condition. Once my son gets a hold of them…they get ripped, etc.
So we haven’t really bought many books for my son. I find that Scholastic has some pretty good non-board books that are great reads. My son LOVES Clifford and Curious George these days. Sandra Boyton has some great board books as well.

My daughter loves these. We have Red Pajama and Mad at Mama. Recently we got “Misses Mama” (about going to school) from the library.

I love this new feature! I’m an avid reader & am going to do my best to make sure all my children are as well. Looking forward to seeing which books y’all post about.
