This past December we moved into a new home. It was a big change going from a 2 bedroom condo to a 4 bedroom home, and many of the rooms are empty still as we don’t have enough furniture to fill the place. But the nice thing is Drake now has his own room and won’t have to share with Chocolate Baby when they arrive.
Since Drake was a surprise baby, we decorated his nursery in the condo in a light yellow color with some white trim and filled the room with giraffes, as I adore them. It was very simple as we knew we would be moving eventually, and wanted the room to be neutral and not scream nursery when we tried to sell. Now that we are in what will most likely be our forever home though, I am excited about the prospect of decorating Drake’s (and Chocolate Baby’s ) rooms and not have to worry about resale factor. I have a lot of ideas I have been working on for both Drake’s toddler room and Chocolate Baby’s nursery, which I hope to be sharing soon, but this post is dedicated to a feature wall idea I had after seeing this image on Pinterest.

Drake’s room is very plain at the moment. It has a white/beige coat of paint, little to no trim anywhere, and a mix of some light hardwoods and some beige carpeting… basically a blank slate. I planned out the ideas I had for Drake’s room and decided the best place for the alphabet wall would be over his dresser which doubles as his changing station. As anyone can imagine it’s hard to keep a toddler still some days on a changing table, and I thought with the letters above him it might keep him still enough for me to get him ready for the day. It’s also across the room from his crib so he can gaze at his letters every night as he fights to go to sleep.
My original plan was to try to DIY many of the letters for him and I created a Pinterest board for that purpose alone. I like to try to DIY things even if I’m not half as successful as Martha. As it happened though, I kept finding fun letters randomly that I ended up buying for a few dollars here and there. I still have some ideas of making a few, but I have been lucky in accumulating quite a bunch of finished ones too.
I DIY’ed the letter B by covering it with buttons, and the C and the lower case q are still waiting for me to do something to them.
I have some definite ideas for some letters. I plan on using some of Drake’s legos to make the letter “I,” and I liked the inspiration photo that used a horse shoe for the letter U and a cross for the letter T, so I plan on copying both of those. I was also thinking of maybe buying a letterman patch somewhere for one of the letters.
Here are a few additional ideas I have seen on Pinterest and hope to replicate:
Yarn, Fabric, Moss, Crocheting
If you have any other suggestions on how to make Drake’s letter wall fun and different Id love to know!

I love this post!!! Thanks for the inspiration! The crayon “N” is cute! I have some ideas…
1) A letter covered with a bunch of those tiny toy cars
2) What about twigs for “T”?
3) Maybe one of them you could have Drake help you…you could cover with white cloth and have Drake put handprints/footprints etc all over it!

We have an alphabet wall in our playroom, and I’m laughing that we have some of the same letters from RH baby because they were so cheap on clearance. We actually modge podged one of them with scrapbook paper, just to make it different than another that we purchased. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out. I think it’s almost impossible for them to turn out anything but adorable.
Also, we ended up using 3M tape to hang the lighter letters, just because it got daunting once I actually started hanging them. 27 items (we had an &), turns out to be a big project installation.

Love this!! I love the Cincinnati Reds “C” (I think?) and love the idea of using a favorite sports’ team’s logo as one of the letters. For the record, we’d use a big G for Green Bay!
I also like the idea of using a negative of a letter that Drake can make using finger paint, like this: http://pinterest.com/pin/261349584595486908/

How about covering a letter with personal photos? Maybe magazine pages? Wrapping paper saved from gifts given to baby? I also bought these large metal letters that are hollow (so you can actually display something inside them and change it out over time perhaps) from Land of Nod. Cute idea b/t/w!
