It can be difficult to find good educational toys. Here are a few of our favourites at four years.
Color Code. The child uses the clear plastic tiles to make the images in the booklet provided. This is fantastic for developing logic and spatial reasoning skills. The images or challenges start at a beginner level and increase in difficulty. This is recommended for ages 5+ but I have found it suitable for four year old children.
BambinoLUK Set. This set comes with a controller and workbooks. The child uses logic and reasoning skills to solve the problems in the workbooks. This is a totally unique product. I haven’t seen anything like it before, and it’s so good for building concentration, memory and problem solving skills. The tiles are fun to use and there is lots of variety in the workbooks.
I love Wikki Stix and I also love their educational cards (alphabet cards can be found here). These are ideal for any children who are learning to write, and learning to form numbers and letters.
A life size skeleton puzzle – do I need to say anymore? The name of each bone is written on the reverse size. The child is learning the name of the bones as they do the puzzle. Because it is around the size of a four year old, this is a lot fun.
Mobilo. I was really hesitant to buy this. I would prefer my children build with wooden blocks. However the ability to click or snap the wheels and pieces together and make cars, trucks, snakes and all sorts of things makes this a real winner. It is imaginary play and I found it perfect for my four year old.
Montessori Hundred Board. This is a really good tool for children who have begun to count large numbers. It also helps the child associate numbers with their written form. I initially bought this when my child had difficulties in correctly counting his 20s and 30s and this really helped. This version also comes with a control board which makes it easy for the child to check their own work.
I hope you enjoy these ideas! I’d love to hear which educational toys your children have loved and which ones have worked in your home.
