We’ve traveled about once a month over the past year we’ve been living in the Philippines, so I have packed many suitcases in that time! We’re avid travelers and while I try to pack light, there are some things that I always bring with me to make the journey more organized and comfortable with kids. These are 20 travel-related items that I own or would love to own — maybe you can get some inspiration for the travel enthusiast in your life!
Bobby anti theft backpack – Pickpocketing is definitely a concern in many areas of the world. My uncle had his camera stolen from his backpack during a hike, and he didn’t even notice until after it was long gone! But a backpack is always my traveling bag of choice because it distributes the weight evenly on my back, and leaves my hands free. This anti-theft backpack funded on Kickstarter has a ton of features including cut-proof material, hidden zippers, secret pockets against your back for your phone/passport/wallet, USB charging port, and more!
packing cubes – These are especially helpful in keeping things organized when you’re packing for an entire family in one suitcase. We also often take smaller planes with no or very strict luggage allowances, and packing cubes enable you to shift things around easily if your luggage is overweight.
travel laundry bag – I usually put our dirty laundry in a plastic bag because we always have laundry when traveling, but I’d love to have a reusable solution like these odor locking laundry bags.
passport case – I was gifted a beautiful passport holder over 10 years ago and it’s still in perfect condition. Since I’m usually holding all four of our family’s passports, it really helps to have different covers to differentiate them.
travel blanket – It gets cold on flights and the airplane blankets are never big enough. We also have layovers in cold airports so a blanket always comes in handy. I look for the most compact ones. I think my kids would love this fleece travel blanket that is a robe/blanket/hoodie/pillow in one!
eye mask – An eye mask is a must for me because I have so much trouble sleeping, especially when traveling. I don’t want to be woken up when they turn on the airplane lights and love using an eye mask.
sleep phones – These are wireless headphones built into a headband that you wear when you’re sleeping. I often listen to Sleep With Me, a podcast that puts you to sleep because I have insomnia, particularly when traveling, and I’m always destroying my ear buds by falling asleep with them on. I would love to have a pair of these sleep phones!
leather cord organizer – While I would gift a nice leather cord organizer to someone, I would purchase something more affordable like this one for myself. Currently I use ziploc bags and I would love a more eco-friendly solution. I usually travel with a lot of electronics including a laptop, iPads, iPhones, battery packs, cameras, etc. and lots of cords and a cord organizer would keep everything nice and tangle free. These leather cord keepers are also great stocking stuffers.
global adapter – This is a universal electricity adapter and 4 usb port in one! I don’t have this exact one, but I do have a 4 port usb and a separate universal adapter that I always travel with.
bluetooth wireless headphones – I need bluetooth wireless headphones in my life!
solar charger – When traveling to more remote destinations with limited electricity or frequent brownouts (like many places in the Philippines), a solar charger really comes in handy.
braided charging cable – These are supposed to be more durable than the regular chargers, which always break after a while. The cord is also 10 feet long so you can have your phone by the bedside in case the outlet is far away.
gopro – The ultimate travel, waterproof, adventure camera. I have one and use it for snorkeling, but high on my wishlist is a drone to use with it! I also have the waterproof case, floating handgrip, and you always need an extra battery, and memory.
uniqlo ultra light down jacket – These roll up into a tiny bag that comes with the jacket and are so versatile for cool and cold weather. I get these for the kids every year!
Marmot rain jacket – When traveling somewhere during the rainy season, a rain jacket is a must. This one from Marmot is lightweight, comes in a ton of colors, and it is definitely one of the best rain jackets at this price point.
travel listography – I used to love writing a diary/journal when I was younger but have started and stopped many in my adult life. I think a book like this that provides interesting prompts are a great way to preserve memories of trips.
coloring book – A travel themed adult coloring book like this one is something both my kids and I would enjoy.
gelly roll pens – A little pricier, but these are the best pens for adult coloring that I’ve been using since I was a kid!
