One of my goals for 2017 is to read more books than I did in 2016. I read 44 books last year. I also want to do a better job tracking and planning what I’m reading, so I’m going to be posting monthly updates on Hellobee. Here is my January update, and below I’m sharing about the books I read in February and am planning to read in March.
THE BOOKS I READ IN FEBRUARY:
This post will be short and sweet because I only read 2 books in February. I started a handful of other ones and am close to finishing a few of them, but it was a short month and an unexpectedly busy one for our family (more on that later).
1. News of the World by Paulette Jiles (224 pages)
This book was the January pick for the Mrs. Modern Darcy Reading Club, which is an online bookclub, and I foolishly assumed it would be a fast read given its relatively short page length. This book was really interesting but it took me forever to read. The language is a little difficult and the author makes some stylistic decisions (like not using quotation marks) that made it hard for me to get through. That said, I did really enjoy the story and am glad I stuck with it until the end. I ended up rating it 4 stars on Goodreads but it was more of a 3 1/2er for me.
2. The Secret to Hummingbird Cake by Celeste Fletcher McHale
I bought this book impulsively on a Kindle sale a few weeks ago and moved it up my to be read list because I needed something light and easy to read. Well ha this was an easy but not a light read. I cried a few tears, developed a major craving for hummingbird cake, which has been described as a love child of banana bread and pineapple upside down cake, and mostly enjoyed it, plus I love Southern fiction. I rated it 3 stars on Goodreads but it was probably deserving of at least 3 1/2 stars.
THE BOOKS I PLAN TO READ IN MARCH:
So basically my plan for March is to read/ finish reading all the books I planned to read in February. I am also excited to start Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, which has received excellent reviews.
What did you read in February? What’s on your reading list for March? Does anybody else want to make a hummingbird cake? :).

I finally read a couple of books on my Kindle, but mostly YA fiction. I just finished two of The Atlantis books, which were good, though a little more conspiracy theory than I can usually tolerate. I previewed a series for my eldest son, the Dragon Masters (which he loves!). I also read The CardTurner by Louis Sachar (an older fiction book), and I’m about to read The Case for Grace by Lee Strobel. I’m looking for suggestions for a few new reads! I’m trying to talk myself into reading Screwtape Letters, which is a classic by CS Lewis, but I’ve not gotten there yet.

I’m doing Book Riot’s Read Harder challenge (3rd year running!) so my February reads were a mishmosh of books for the challenge, and stuff I wanted to read for a while, lighter reading, etc.
Forgetting Time – Sharon Guskin (definitely recommend)
Art Forger – BA Shapiro (I was surprised by how good this was)
Without Reservations – Alice Steinbach (travel memoir for Read Harder – very good)
Bollywood Bride – Sonali Dev (fluffy romance, really good)
7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen Covey (this is a bible in my line of work so it was about time I read this)
Into the Go Slow – Bridgett Davis (indie/micro press for the Read Harder challenge, really good)
Four of a Kind – Valerie Frankel (I ended up liking it but it felt trite at times)
Goodnight June – Sarah Jio (I love everything by this author, and this might have been the best one yet. Fans of Goodnight Moon, bookstores and food should definitely pick this one up)
