When my brother and I were kids, my dad wrote a series of books on learning English as a second language. Big cardboard boxes that contained thousands of those books filled our 2-car garage. My brother and I systematically removed certain boxes to create a super secret pathway that led to a fort in the middle of all the boxes. We spent hours in that fort reading, playing, and dreaming. It’s one of my most cherished childhood memories, and I want Charlie and Olive to have an awesome fort of their very own one day.
The best part about a fort is you really only need a sheet and your imagination to build one! Here is a roundup of some inspiring fort and tee pee images!

I like the idea of making one with a hula hoop and sheets.

So cute! I wish my brother and I had these things to make fancy teepees! We used couch cushions and old blankets for our forts!

These are cute, but I probably would not buy one for my kids. When my siblings and I were younger we would use sheets and furniture to build forts. Our parents would help us. We made different shape and sized forts every time and it was so fun. I would love to help my kids do the same one day.

Wow! That is so cool. I just stumbled upon the idea the other day with my 11 month old. She loves how a curtain brushes across her face or playing in hanging laundry. So when I had a small blanket draped over the edge of her crib, she crawled under it and kept peeking out of it. I took the same blanket and draped it over her pack and play while she played beneath it, in the shadows. Now mind you, I don’t let her hang on the curtain or allow any possibility of suffocation hazard as I’m right there within eye-shot. But she absolutely giggled her heart out. There’s something to it from a young age.
